I think that you are meant to leave that orange "emergency release" cord behind the side panel/trim, but a point where you can easily get to it if/when you need to use it.
My old 2011 Audi S4 will have one, I've had the side panel/trim off when adding in some new wiring, but I've forgotten exactly it is located.
After finding that, I made a point of finding out the part number of that plastic release cord, I found one on ebay, for an Audi S1 think, and planning to retro fit it to my wife's 2015 VW Polo which will not have one - but that was about 8 years ago and I dropped that idea as probably the solenoid assembly fitted to cars that don't have this feature, will not be compatible with just fitting a cord/cable to!
So, it looks like maybe even VW Group started adding that cord to the latest version of new solenoids for older cars - if so, that would have been a smart idea.
Maybe I need to re-activate this old idea of mine!
Edit:- from looking at that picture again, it looks like the plan should be to have the "handle" clipped over the rear most or upper most edge of a trim panel using that "clip bracket" at the end of it.
