Hi,

I've done a search regarding my problem but don't think the soldering issue will fix it.

The fuel gauge on my pd130 is stuck on full and when the car is switched off the gauge sits at half a tank.

Any ideas guys?

Car is a 2003 ibiza sport tdi.

Cheers.

Sounds like the little stepper motor has had it's days, as regardless of the signal it receives it should zero when the ignition is turned off???

Where is the stepper motor located?

After driving it over the weekend i think half a tank is empty and when the tank is full the gauge goes miles past the 1/1!!

The stepper motor is what makes the needle move, so in you instrument cluster. You could try removing the cluster and manually reset the needle??? but something has caused this to go wrong in the first place.

You could try that yes, though it sounds like the motors has got a stiff point which raises the current it draws and therefore thinks it has hit the end stop.

You've got nothing to lose by trying Vag-com, and probably worth trying an output test on the instrument cluster first, I tested all my gauges the other day when I was having a play lol

Yea i'll have a play on Vagcom first..thanks for your help.

Another quick question. Does your coolant bottle have a sensor plugged into it?

My bottle has a sensor but no multi plug...the coolant warning light beeps and flashes intermitantly but coolant level is fine and temp is good. I'm thinking the bottle has been replaced (looks fresh) and not been plugged back in.

ibiza dont have a sensor in the coolant bottle money saving by seat, cheaper to use the same bottle across the range then to produce a new one

LOL really...cheap skates!

Any ideas why my coolant light randomly flashes then? Coolant is bang on, and engine temp at 90 all the time.

Mine is not connected either, and you getting errors may be further indication of a faulty instrument cluster???? See what VCD highlights.

I didn't know there was a stepper motor in the fuel gauge. Surely not?

A computer (ECU) converts the pulses and displays this speed or temp etc on an electronically-controlled, analog-style needle. A stepper motor drives the needle in the dash panel.
