Just thought I'd point this out as I've seen a few people claim that to heat the mirrors, you have to have them in the central 'heated' position, as well as the rear heated screen being switched on.

This is incorrect. When the switch is in the central position, they heat up regardless of whether or not the rear heated screen is on.

So to save power, leave it in the right hand position.
 
ye, left will do also, but if you leave it in the right position, when parking all you have to do it push it down and both mirrors simultaneously go down so you can clearly see the lines of a parking bay, whereas if it's in the left position, you have to switch it to the right one first . . . ;)
 
Cool i didn't know this, handy tip for lining up in parking bays :D
 
awesome info guys, there was me thinking that the heated mirrors only come on when its 5 degrees or less :doh: feeling pretty silly right now!!! schoolboy error that.
 
ah ive been even more of a muppet cos this is a mk2 post:doh: so it doesnt even apply to my mk1! feel free to ignore me!
