Hi all i have a problem with a air bag light which has just come on.I have used vag com and it gives me 01221 crash sensor drivers side (G179) 37-00 Faulty.I have had seat out today and checked yellow connectors but still showing code after reset.Does anyone know where the actual sensor is on a Cupra tdi or have any further advice.I did disconnect battery for a while before working on it.

There are a pair of crash sensors on the crossmember that runs side to side under the front of the front seats - one each side under the carpet. (they're side impact sensors really).

Hi Dave

Thanks for that, are they in front of the cross member or beneath the seats?

Also are they difficult to see or will the carpet have to come out to get at them.

The car has not been in a collision ever and am wondering why this fault has just occurred for no reason.

Many Thanks

Clive

Cheers Dave will have a look at weekend.Do you know what goes faulty with them as i seem to remember seeing them but thought that maybe they were a mechanical device that triggered the air-bag system rather than a electrical sensor. Is there a sensor also attached at some point which can be replaced so that light can be reset ?
Thanks again

Clive

Smokey, did you fix this? I've still got the same problem with the wife's 1.4 and I've tried disabling and disconnecting the sensor but I still have faults showing up and the airbag light on. MOT is on Wednesday and although I'm sure an airbag light isn't a fail, I don't want to risk it.

Cheers

HI Antnee
Yes finally got to bottom of problem today. When i lifted carpet to get at sensor there was moisture present under the insulation layer.I checked the MVB 9 in VAG Com which showed me that my sensors are both 00A for driver and passenger side.I went down to my local stealer who confirmed that the 00A after the part number was correct. They quoted me £150.00 inc VAT.I did not purchase one as i had an idea to check beforehand.I came back home and swapped the sensor from driver to passenger side and low and behold fault changed to the passenger side confirming fault was with the sensor.I rang my local TPS trade counter who offered me a price of £136.00 inc Vat.I also rang a VW breaker who had some sensors in stock but did not know their ID Characteristics. He did say i could go over with my Laptop and Vag Com Lead and try them in the car.He was selling them for £20.00.He is only open weekdays which is awkward for me so i am going to buy one from TPS,expensive i know but need to sort it asap.Hope this helps you with yours. Please let me know.PS don't for to disconnect battery.

Great news. Not fixed the wifes but it went through the MOT OK. My LCR looks like it needs a new clutch so hers can wait for such a minor thing

Bringing this back up. My LC TDI has this same fault 01221 G179 Side air bag crash sensor drivers side faulty. Checked it on VAGcom and got the fault. Took it to dealers today to spend £43.20 for the same info that I already knew. Ordered the sensor, was £156.47. Now, the dealer has told me that it was in the drivers door, yet every thread I read on forums says it's on the cross member under the seats. Which is it as I'm attempting the fix on Saturday. Got to take the door card off anyway to cure a common water problem. The part which has been ordered is part no. 6Q0 909 606 K 00A, is this correct? Cheers for the help in advance.

Ok, got round to changing the sensor today and sorting my leaking door seal. The sensor was under the carpet so got that done. My carpet was wet on the underside so I guess water got into the sensor. Anyway, fixed the leaking seal so hopefully all done now, cleared fault on VAGcom and it hasn't returned so all good.

Hi guys, I have this fault with my 2004 seat Leon, I,ve taken to the local vw specialists echo confirmed it was the drivers side impact sensor that is at fault, I've tried calling seat and looking around for this part but unfortunately I have no clue what the part number is, does anyone know if their are the same on all Leon's? If so does anyone have the part number to hand? As the mot is due and the airbags are now part of the criteria on an mot.

Thanks in advance
