Hi, Just fitted a pair of gas lift struts for the bonnet. Got em from Ali Express

£26.55 inc delivery.

Came with the fixings, just needed a spray of grease on all fastenings. The car is already drilled and a tapped thread ready for them, but the hole is covered with a small black rubberised sticker. You simply unbolt the colour painted upper fastening bolt on the bonnet and insert the supplied ball joint bracket, then re-attach for the top fixing. (12mm nut)

The lower fastening as I said, remove the sticker, put fastening in and tighten - lower nut 10mm, upper is 12mm. Snap on gas struts and test.

On the link someone has posted pics of the job done if you want to see result.

I wish I'd gone for the red to match car colour, but then again how often is the bonnet open!!

You can get them from Amazon as well with next day delivery but at £39.

hey, new here so looking around as i just got my Formentor. Saw this. Looks like quite a cool mod. Found another thread as well.
I saw this one on both Amazon and AliExpress as well. Curious to your experience: did you damage something inside? How are they? Easy to open/close? :D

Work great, still functioning, good simple mod. No damage caused, and I always put a spray of Rustoleum rust killer spray on stuff I fit.

Hi,
1 year later, they're still working good.
It only require a bit "load" to close the bonnet properly, in order it becomes properly latched.
The bonnet's own weight is not enough to close efficiently.

thx! may get it when i start modifying it. Noticed the Racingline and Forge have both compatible air intake and Forge has a nice blow off valve. Will be fun combination.

Thanks gents! :)

Appreciate the tip, ordered. These are the small mods I like tinkering around with before going too crazy.

I recently installed some paddle shifter extensions from Ali Express as I was taught to drive with my hands at 2 and 10, rather than 3 and 9. Not perfect but pretty darn good for £12/AUD$25 delivered: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006138643773.html

The copper colour is a very close match to the Cupra accents. The finish is 8/10 decent. Snug fitment. They are a bit chunky, I would prefer something slimmer but the other options mostly have sticker backings for now.

In terms of paddle shifters I didn't want those enlarged one, but rather a different one which has a clicky switch. I found one on the internet after chatting with someone who has this installed in his VZ5: https://www.tddmotors.com/products/...s3-s4-s5-sq5-sq7-sq8-rs1-rs2-rs3-rs4-rs5-rsq5

I like the look of some of those options a lot. I think that is a solid plan to opt for a full replacement, will give it a whirl down the track.
