Gas struts mod

Might be due to the strut being for an Audi A3 tailgate an not the bonnet. Mine was specifically the bonnet strut. The tailgate one might be too stiff to shut with such little weight. Whats the power rating of the strut? Should be something like 400n?

It says 350N on the packet. I know others have used the same one, maybe need to just put more pressure on to close it first time

Daniel M has put one of the Audi A3 8L ones on his so I've just gone for the same because I assume it must be fine. The VAG part number is 8L0823359.

This is the strut I ordered which is just some no-name one probably made in the far east: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290946506377

Did you get yours set up and working? I see you ordered the same strut as we have.

I put my packet in the bin and the strut doesn't say on it, maybe it is just a first time thing but i don't want to stress my bonet trying it.

Sorted - stuck it place of one on the boot (same size, lucky) and opened and shut it about 20 times... Loosened it up enough to be able to use on the bonnet. Just be careful swapping over as the bootlid is too heavy for a single strut!

awesome! Just done the same and it worked a treat.

Also made me see that I needed new boot struts with how well it opened with the new one in place!

No disrespect to anyone, but I don't like the look of this perticular setup, the strut would get in the way of working from the left wing, e.g; engine mounts, coolant, washer top up, down pipe, headlight etc.. I know I'm being petty but if you look at other OEM ones they are closer to the bulk head. Is ours the way it is because of the weird hinge?

Boot pop mod is another good one to have. Opens the tailgate with the middle button on the key fob. Some stronger struts and some bumpers off a sirocco ;). Also needs enabling through VCDS.

Tried to fit mine a while ago, must've done somthing wrong but the bonet wouldn't go down all the way and i ended up bending some un-important metal part :S

Copied pictures of everyone else's, I'll open up the bonnet when I get home and see which hole I used

I emailed him a couple of weeks ago too and heard nothing back. I ended up fabricating some plates at work and they work a treat. My only issue is that the strut despite opening and closing pushes the left rear of the bonnet close enough to the windscreen pillar that it touches when opening.
I'll post some pics using tapatalk shortly.

As you can see, it touches when the bonnet is popped but still down. When it's secured its only about 2mm closer than the other side. Hoping it will ease off as the strut wears in. I may put the new strut on the bonnet for a week or two to work it a bit, I'm hoping that will cure it otherwise I'll take it off.
