am new to this site and jus brought a seat ibiza 1.4 2000 for som reason it makes a crunchin sound somtimes when i put it in reverse gear any ideas guys wat could b rong wid it.
****ed! i had that problem not long after gettin mine. about a year later I had to replace the box! it grinded a few times when puttin it into 5th on way home from my dads, then a few days later, it grinded into 3rd and 4th!
so i'm guessin get a new box. unless you can get it repaired if detected early enough!
dont most cars somtimes crunch when going into reverse? I had a brand new 03 mini cooper and that was terrible for it. I`d worry more when it starts crunching often in forward gears.!
go into first before reverse and see if it does it then? sometimes the gears need re sitting into position prior to engagment. have a try but i would deffernatly change box oil
i spoke to my local specialist about this, its a common problem with our boxes, it doesnt mean your box is on the way out, mine crunches as well from time to time especially if i rev by mistake before hand
crunching into reverse is a really common problem with alot of cars, it's basicly because theres no syncromesh on the reverse gear.
as some people have said put it in 1st then into reverse, also ensure you are fully depressing the clutch pedal, and you'll be fine, aslong as it doesn't crunch into any forward gears.
As for the gear oil change, do it anyway, it shouldn't be expensive, and it can only be a good thing surely? i know i'll be doing mine when the better weather comes.
If it's a hydraulic clutch (not sure what the 1.4 has) it might also be worth bleeding the slave cylinder?
