gear box

i am havein a bit of a prob with my 1.6 wen in ideal there is a funny tapping noise but wen i dig th clutch it stops if i let it back up it starts again. any ideas?

check the gearbox oil level, it might just be low. Sounds like what happend to me, i topped up the oil and it was fine but then a few weeks later the box just gave up on me..

the only thing holding oil in my gearbox is the cv boots and thats technically its 3rd gearbox in 120000 miles

the gearbox's are well soft on some ibiza's, mine is on it's thjrd at least, i replaced it, an it looked like the one that was on it was a replacement! an since tyhen i've not really revved past 4000prm, an this one sounds unhealthy aswell!! aaaaahh

sounds like the clutch release bearing, or the centre bearing on the 'box

mine did it for 75k (I picked the car up with 50k) and it was fine

i no this is a bit daft but how do u check th oil in the box??

There's an allen screw on the side of the gearbox which you need to take out. If the oil is level with this hole, then it's got enough oil. If you need to curl your finger down then it needs topping up, which is doen through the same hole.
