Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to have a gear selector cable fitted to a 130 sport.
My bro's car has lost 2nd and 3rd gear. the gearstick moves to what seems to be the correct slot but when he brings the clutch up it's like it's in neutrel.

reverse,3rd,4th,5th and 6th seem fine.

Is 3rd working or not? Did you mean 1st and 2nd?

I assume you've tried adjusting the cable? The fact that it sounds like it is engaging but not driving, sounds more terminal to me. Sounds like a failed selector fork

It does sound more like a fork or part of the selector in the box. Check the cable hasn't come un-clipped where it meets the top of the gearbox, tho it's unlikely if you can still select reverse.

My mistake, it's 1st and 2nd that he's lost, the cables are still in tact at both ends and the cables move fine. I'm thinking that the tower that the cables connect to at the top of the gearbox could be the fault.

He's taken it to a VAG specialist today, fingers crossed for him. I't not far to drive so his clutch should hold out pulling away in 3rd for a few miles (I hope)

This happened to mine

Not usure exactly what it was but was told something had snapped in the gearbox

Didn't ask too many questions as it was covered under my Used Seat warranty

It was in their workshop for around 10 days though so may have been a big/expensive repair
