What code of 02(A) box is in a 2.0 16v Ibiza?
I'm looking at getting a lower final drive (CZM) and just want to be sure it isn't that already..
Cheers

CDA 3.61 from memory. I think there are 3.94 and 4.12 versions out there. RobT had somethign up his sleeve many moons back and Bill has a spreadsheet/calculator with the 02a ratios on it. I had it .. on an old PC so not here any longer.

have a look on my project thread I have the spreadsheet on there some where.

16v box is 02A and the ratio codes are CDA and like edc said final drive of 3.68. I have fitted the 3.94 FD and found it very good I was in two minds with having the 4.12 but speaking to a few people it was going to be too short and was reading on forums of people going from 3.68 to 4.12 and then to 3.94.

Do a search for the 3.94 FD and I have written a thread on here with all the part numbers of everything I changed.

More to come on this, with more details of what ratios are in which gearbox variant...
02A & 02J gearbox differences
# The differentials are different. The 02A has push in output shafts on spring clips, whereas the 02J has bolt in output shafts but they are interchangeable as long as you have the correct flanges.
# The crown wheels are the same, but the planet gear/LSD bit that differs, which means that the Quaife LSDs that fit these boxes are different
# There is no difference in the holes that bolt the gearbox to the engine or the starter into the box, - the only difference is in the lower part of the bellhousing where some cars have a (pointless) girdle on that bolts to the underside of the sump.
# The 02J has bigger support webs around the differential area
# There is a slight differences in the fixing points for the gearchange cable support bracket
# The two mounting holes at the wheel end are slightly different as well. They are threaded on an 02J gearbox, whereas they are just holes with an 02A
# The bell housing face that mounts to the block is slightly different
# The selector shaft is different, there are two options; either swap to an older selector shaft, or use the 02J selector shaft with a Mk4 Golf shifter box.
# The 02J boxes out of a 1.8T, the axle flanges are 108mm as opposed to 100mm, so it'll require either custom axles, or swap the axle flanges.
# The 02J 100mm axle flanges part number ends in D, all other 02J axle flange part numbers are 108mm.
02S the 02A replacement?

The research suggests that the 02S found in the Mk5 Golf, A3 and Touran appear to be an 02A/J with an extra cog. It seems that VW have produced a 6 speed without the dual output shafts.

This looks like the holy grail - any idea if a direct fit? Combine this with a 4.24 diff and it will be a cracking box. Was having problems with the steering lock on dual output boxes!

Cheers, Rich
