I just bought a 2001 seat leon AUQ engine 180hp standard remapped to 210

The gearbox isn't smooth at all i have to change gear very very slow or it will clunk or make a noise much worse in 1st 2nd 3rd , also when i press the clutch to take the car OUT of gear i can hear the gear or something clicking out from where it was before i even move the gear stick what can also be heard from outside the car! Cold or warm its the same, i just got back from the seat dealership i was talking to the mechanic a really nice guy looked over it for me started the car felt the gears and said to change the oil and grease everything up?

What do you think could it be the cables/bar to change gear that is loose or low oil level? I think its more than oil surely replacing the oil wouldn't stop that clicking noise or slight grinding when changing gear? Any further advice is much appreciated new member new owner :)

It doesn't sound good at all.

If you can then maybe get a friend to look at the engine while you put it into gear while stationary or at walking pace.

You might be able to pin point the noise quite quickly. Also check you dog bone mount under the engine which stops the engine from swaying back and forward. Check for any loose components.

Does it make noise when changing gear when the engine is off?

Hey it makes noise when engine is off clutch in changing gears still isnt smooth very rough into second! Seems to be getting worse :/ problem is i have to wait till next saturday to get it up on a ramp as im working, it does seem to click out of gear whilst engaging the clutch (sometimes) but the gear stick doesent move with it or anything like that just makes that noise also it does feel as if something was loose earlier after giving hard throttle in 1st then clutch in it seemed something jumped forward or it could just be clicking out of gear got to get it on the ramps and have a good look especially if somethings loose :/

thanks for your reply mate

Check gear linkage at the top of the gear box, the rubbers perish and make it hard to get into gear, also sometimes it needs resetting, theres a good guide on youtube.

Can

Ok well i cant get on a ramp untill saturday is it possible to jack the car up and see it from there? Also do u have a link please i cant find much mate

You can see it from the engine bay dude, its like a dog leg on top of the box, theres a black rubber thats easy to see if its nakerd. And ill have a look but im on my phone.

Okay nice one took a few pics they look fine tbh think its the right part :- can also change gear by hand with the gear linkage from engine bay no problem just sounds like its coming from under the car area? Low down where the cables cannot be seen ? Dno could be wrong though just sounds from there mate

Cheers dude ill check that out its a 6 speed does that make any difference

Update on the car!

Reset the cables it helped a tiny bit still quite harsh but not grinding anymore more like clicking into gear!
Took it to a transmission/gearbox specialist he drove it done lots of tests with me in the car and said if he took the box apart he doesent think anything would be wrong with it he said best to change to a thinner oil to try that and see if it works!

Hey dan any luck?
You know it might be worn clutch? Also I believe its a hydraulic release bearing...that might be siezed or need bleading or enen leaking slightly.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi mate no luck yet on holiday atm so havent had time to do anything to it , still drives fine just 2nd have to change it slower then its fine kinda pops in after 1 2 seconds doesn't grind, hi revs its fine! Clutch is fine mate no slipping etc have to get that bearing checked etc thanks for your message
