1.4tdi ecomotive - 143K miles, service record has no entry for gearbox oil change. No problems with gear changes, still smooth and tight.

Car past recent MOT with no advisories in fact the tester remarked how surprised he was saying that everything was in such good working order and told me about a 08 polo bluemotion which came in with 130K miles on it and it was well shagged - guess it must have been driven hard or heavily loaded. The interior of my car is, overall for the miles, in excellent condition, so I don't think it's been over used, but probably done a lot of motorway miles and has full VAG service history.

My experience driving it is that it drives no different to the 1.0 petrol Skoda Fabia I bought brand new in 2011. It doesn't feel, in anyway, a car approaching 150K miles.

Obviously you can gather I'm running this car to spend as little as possible being the ecomotive model.

I was wondering if there are any general gear box issues reported? Google searches don't show anything. The gear box is the same as the standard 1.4tdi except for taller rations in the higher gears.

Being a set up which doesn't really experience heavy load, I would have thought 200K miles will be of no concern on the original gear box oil. I had the brake oil tested at the MOT and it's still well within safe margins, the tester said the brake oil might need changed in about 25K miles.

Opinions?

Cheers

Unless your gearbox makes any whines or noises it's most likely fine. I changed mine at 60k on my 20vt as there had been problems reported on that model, although mine showed none of the symptoms, it only cost me a little to do so thought I may as well play safe. It made the change smoother and the stuff that came out was surprisingly dirty so it was worth doing in my case.

i've just changed from a 1.9TDi sport (130) it had 220kmiles when i sold it to my brother. AFIK the gearbox oil had not been changed, i'd owned it from 67k.
I had planned to change the oil due to mileage and 12 yr old, but never got round to it :(
so not something i would worry about unless you have gearbox grumbles!
