Get ecu coded or sell ibiza 20v turbo as it is?

Hi, I have a Seat Ibiza 20v Turbo, X reg in Black. I bought the car about 3 or 4 years ago for £3500. I drove it for about 6 months then started to notice problems with the engine cutting out. It turned out to be a water logged ecu, which in the end prevented the car from even starting.

I intended to get the car fixed but it wasnt really a pressing concern as I commute to work on the train. I bought a replacement ecu on ebay over a year ago for about £400 but still havent had it coded to the car. The car has been sat outside my garage for about 3 years now.

My question is.... should I get the ecu coded to the car then have it MOT'ed etc before I try to sell it or should I sell it as it is. The car was fine before it stopped starting, so unless it has problems now becasue it has been sat there for so long as long as the ecu works when coded to the car it should be fine.

How much would someone pay for a car with an uncoded ecu and how much would i get if i sorted it out?

Cheers,

Rob.

To be honest I would say your better off breaking it. Chances are it will need a fair amount of other work being sat so long. If you cant break I would think it would work out best selling as is.

what kind of other work is it likely to need becasue it has sat there so long?

I dont know, but items like tyres and brakes dont like to be sat. neither do fluids, battery's etc. These bits then start adding up. You just need to think what you want to sell it for in each state, and what it costs to fix.

so how much would it cost roughly to get it coded to the car? and what is vag?

im thinking if i get the ecu in the car and its up and running i should get about 2k for it when i sell it. whereas if i sell it with no ecu im prob not gonna get more than a few hundred quid for it.

Where are you based? 5 mins with a laptop would have the ECU swapped & the car worth loads more.

Breaking is a mugs game, you need to be bothered to advertise, strip & store the parts

£20 to cover my fuel & I'll recode your clocks to suit the ECU next weekend. Get it insured & drive it the long way to the MOT place to see how bad it is.

For £100 you'll see how saleable it is

your in glasgow? You'd drive up from there? when you say recode the clocks im not sure exactly what you mean. I was told that a new ecu has to be coded to the car as it wont work otherwise. so your saying £20 fuel and £80 for the coding = total £100 to get ecu coded to the car ... then i can get it mot'ed etc??

If this is the case im interested.

I live in Portsmouth at the weekends :) fly up for work

So £20 for my fuel to drive to you sees the car started and clocks coded (you code the clocks to ECU)

The £80 left covers temp insurance & MOT :)

Hi mate, ok so you want £20 to come up and code the clocks? The other £80 is not for you??Your saying i need to spend £80 myself to get insured and drive it to a garage to get it mot'ed??

If its a case of paying you £20 to come here and do it then it seems like a no-brainer. I just need to get the battery charged (make sure it will still take a charge).

If I have understood this correctly and assuming I can charge the battery then for £20 Id be happy for you to come and code it.

Could I have your number to arrange it?

Rob

dammit.

Yeah. I'll give you £250 for the lot, code the ECU infront of you & drive home - too cruel!
