ok due to the fact my parents have been extremely generous, and said i can borrow the money for a new car of them rather than getting a loan as long i set up a direct debit to pay it back

i can now start looking for a new car, i am looking at a 2002-2004 tdi sport model and i am looking to spend about 6k or so.

i want it in black as its the best mk4 colour imo, and was wondering what things to look for when checking them out.

also are seat dealerships likely to stock this age of car? as i know they only stock fairly new second hand models, and i am not sure if this would be classed as too old for them or not

If you go to the MK4 FAQ's section think someone did a review or started thread on common problems/what to look out for.

Make sure it has all 4 wheels.

Also, I found seats make it more comfortable to drive.

Cheers,

James

nothing to look for really check history to see if common prob have been fixed like starter cable washer pipes, if these have been done chances are they wont happen again also dont think dealers will be stocking the tdi sports bit old now and out of warrenty you might find a few fr tdi's on 04 plates roughly same insurance group but might be hard to find one for 6k

Try and get to the meet. Should be about 50 miles each way for you.

You'll get to meet Mk4 drivers and looking at a car is much better then reading a description.
No doubt you'll hear all the tales of woe and also why the Mk4 Ibiza is a great car!
Most people who attend a meet are more than happy to give advice and pass on what they know about the car they drive.
Hope this helps.

Guy.

if you want to have a good look around one you can look over mine and i can point out what problems have come up on mine and others

thanks for the relies guys

hope it won't take too long to find a good example locally, found one in leeds but my parents are being a pain saying they want me to get one local

but i am sure if i got it warranty and stuff would transfer to my local garage, and i can't seem to find what cars they have in stock used either

Try to get to the meet first!
Only 10 days away and you'll get some great pointers from people who drive Mk4's.

Be prepared to travel for a good car! An hour up the motorway is easily worth it for the right car ;)

If it's from a dealership the warranty will be redeemable locally I would've thought

oh and the best thing is my dad got his volvo s60 from Melton mowbary, so saying they is rather hypocritical and he said it was because its volve to which i said they are all the same

i can see this being a fun search:p

I got my Mk4 from Lincoln :p

But yeah you gotta travel to find the right car as a rule of thumb. Dont limit yourself to second best for the sake of a £20 bus/train fare!

well i will be using my current car as part payment and cash the rest, i cannot do without my car so will be exchanging on the day i get my new one so travelling to view is not the problem

its just as my parents are lending me the money i have to respect their wishes for this, but they have to realise i may need to look further afield for the right car for me

I got my Mk4 from Holland :p

Definitely worth travelling to pick up a decent car.

If it's still in warranty period (if it's a UK supplied car it must be at least an early 2004 model) then you can take it to any dealer for servicing and warranty work, doesn't matter whether they supplied it or not. You don't need to any transferring of warranty or owt like that.
