Getting HIDs

Hi guys,

Seriously considering getting a Xenon Kit, but i have a few queries before doing so.

1) I drive a 1.2 ibiza (basic model) 54 plate, and was checking to see if it is H4 bulbs as I only appear to have one bulb for both high and low beam.

2) Is there a need to cut holes or modify the cluster in any way

3) Is the plug for the headlights a standard plug for all munufactures, so any HId kit will connect to it.

4) Do I need to inform my insurance company of the change

All help much appreciated

regards.

inform the insurnace, no not any kit will fit you need the same bulb as whats in yours, you need to cut a hole in the back cover for the leads to come out of thats it and you only have 1 bulb as its a low spec model. However you can upgrade to twin headlamps, if you can find any.

They're illegal, but most MOT Centre's and the Police don't bother too much with them.

What your after is an H4 Bi-Xenon kit, this is a kit that will fit and act as Dipped & Main beams as you require.

Two holes will have to be made in the back of the clusters for the wires to fit, the ballasts can be located anywhere nearby (Click the Website link in my signature, and look for my HID install images). :)

I also recommend drilling three small holes on the top of the light covers, this will help with any condensation you might get building up on the lenses. :)

In three years of driving with HID's I've never heard of anyone getting pulled or having issues with them in any way at all. :)

I've driven around a roundabout with a Panda Car waiting at an exit, and he didnt stop me. Also on the motorway, cruised past a Traffic Police Car - he didn't pull me over either - both occasions with the Xenons on obviously :) .

Isn't there an " Ibiza Mk4 Xenons " sticky thread anywhere, sorry but these questions come up 2 or 3 times a week!

In answer to your Q's....

1) Yes, you can buy Xenons for BOTH H4 and H7 fitment.
(H4 Xenons combine 1 Xenon bulb with Xenon dipped and Halogen high beams).
note: You will hardly use high beam anyway, as Xenon dipped will be THAT bright ;)

2) No, the Clusters WONT be touched. But the plastic covers that clip onto the back require a hole cutting, for the wiring adaptors.

3) Generally its a universal plug. But some (more expensive) Kits include additional wiring, with a connector for different makes/models of cars.
PLUS some come with extra current protection circuits too (again, on the more expensive kits).

4) You should really, yes!
