Hey guys I'm stuck between the cupra and fr leon, I know they run different turbos but how easy and what kind of mods would I need to get a fr up to or just over 300bhp

If you're aiming for the best performance then it's obvious that the Cupra will be the better choice as it sports the larger K04 turbo, so I wouldn't waste your time trying to upgrade an FR with performance parts to reach a maximum goal of say 300bhp, when it's achieveable from a stage 1 remap on the cupra. Just my $0.02 though..

My opinion would be, unless you want DSG, get a Cupra. £500 on a remap will see over 300bhp. You'll regret not getting the stronger engine and the K04 turbo that comes with the Cupra if tuning is on the agenda.

Yeah I'm just debating between the to more because of price that anything, I just wanted some info about how easy it is to mod, what power do you get out go stage 1 on a fr?

What's your budget for the car?

My guess is, unless you get 2nd hand parts, it will cost you the same to get an FR to 300bhp as it would to buy a Cupra and get a Stage 1 map. That's before you consider the other benefits of the Cupra...

Stage 1 FR will see about 250ish.

Im looking in between 8 and 9 thousand, but I don't want older then 2008.

And to be honest I think 250 is probably going to enough, as I don't really want to spend a lot on mods and I'm not power mad, all I would do is coilovers rear defuses with central exhaust maybe full system and induction kit, but what gets me if I did that on cupra I would get 300bhp but I would be spending 9k and above for the but with the fr ill have stage one car how I want it for the same price as the cupra

Get Cupra and then be satisfied with gains, otherwise FR wont give You that

If you did that on a Cupra you'd get more like 340bhp with a Stage 2 map! Just sayin'

You'd get 300bhp from software alone with a Cupra.

£9k would get you a good 2008 Cupra - especially if you buy private.

You always think its enough, but it never is!........

This.
DSG is the only real differentiating factor.

Cupra block is better and capable of withstanding 300hp a lot better stock.
Not to mention better suspension, handling, bigger turbo, better internals, relocated DV, etc etc. many benefits to a Cupra. Aside from getting 300hp from one good remap.

So, if manual: go Cupra

i couldnt find an Cupra or LCR within my budget when i was looking, well i could but not one that was in a good of state as the FR i currently own.

as much as i do love my FR, and its been mapped and a p-flo i do think 'should i go stage 2+ that will cost me a grand' or sell the FR and get a cupra, but will then need to finance too.

whilst im in the middle of getting a house finance isnt the best option, so ended up with the FR, spent a few quid on her, she goes well. i may go stg2+ once ive moved into my place...and then just end up keeping the FR for longer than i expect.

if i knew 2 years down the line id sell, or trade in i wouldnt bother doing anything to it - as i know i should have saved for a little longer and got a cupra and map that. but, im happy to say the FR will be a long term investment so yeah, stg2+ is on the cards.
