Glow Plugs - Pressure Sensor

So I drive a 2016 2.0TDI Seat Leon St. I've recently had the engine management light come on and after getting a friend to check it over with diagnostics, (not a main dealer or specialist) he was able to confirm that it was a glow plug that had gone, I just can't remember which number. More fool me. Though he would be able to re-check which number it is.

Having checked online I've seen there are glow plugs without senors and glow plugs with and I'm unable to tell if my car has a pressure sensor type glow plug. Having checked under the cover, from left to right 1,2 and 4 number glow plugs look skinnier than number 3. I've attached some photos. Apologies they aren't great as they were taken in the wet and dark.

There seems to be a significant price difference between standard glow plugs and the type with sensors too (in the region of a £230 difference) checking euro car parts. If it's normal glow plugs I'm gonna replace them all. I don't know much about cars or the best place to check for parts so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't answer your question but I did find this via Google:

"If you have stop start you need the ones with the sensors.

If you don't have stop start you need the ones without sensors."

Can't tell you how accurate that is! It is also apparently possible that only one has a sensor (the fatter one?) and 3 do not. Again - it's not gospel!

I do find ECP and GSF are a bit vague with compatability at times.

Stick your reg in here and see if you get any more detailed options:

Personally, I would also change all of my glow plugs if one has failed.

Thanks for that, I do have start stop so it's likely I do need a sensor type. Yeah, i struggled with what to search so information was vague but you've done a better job of it than me, so thank you! I'm gonna ring a VW group specialist and see what their verdict is or if they'll diagnose it to see if it is the sensor specifically that has failed. I've been advised to start applying WD40 in the mean time to help prevent breakages. Thank you for the reply, it's much appreciated

No problem. I've got the 2014 ST so it's always nice to learn new things and glow plugs might be on my replacement list one day.

I'm afraid your google quotes are incorrect.
I have stop start on my 184 and I do not have a pressure sensor on my glow plugs.

Latest OE numbers:
059 963 319 AB Glow plug 27.05.2013>
03L 905 061 K Glow plug with pressure sensor PR:7MM or PR:7MJ

Google each of those OE numbers to find a picture of each and compare with what's on your engine.
With and without pressure sensor look quite different so should be easy enough to tell which you have.

edit:
Just to add - personally if it was me and I had ones with pressure sensor which were around £100 each RRP! I would only be changing the faulty one. Bit different when the standard ones are just £10 each.

edit again!
Looking on ebay you can find the genuine glow plugs with pressure sensor for around £50!

Cheers for that. When I put my reg in to various parts sellers sites they show
various glow plugs (boshc etc) - quantity required 3
and a couple with the pressure sensor - quantity required 1

Yet to ring a specialist but shall do so on my lunch

In the mean time I'll see if I can get the glow plug rail off to check the heads of the glow plugs, if it feels like it'll come off easy. Should know for sure then as it should be noticeably different as it'll have the pressure valve on it
