good price?

hello all,


i went to my local garage called drivers and they have quoted me 140.86 for a k&n panel filter and iduction kit. do you think that is worth it or is a bit of a rip off?

A panel filter and an induction kit?

Surely it 1 or the other. I dont think you can fit both.

A panel filter goes into the original airbox and an induction kit replaces the airbox.

what sort of car do you have? like a_waugh has said, you can only have one or the other. Tbh your best of buy either a panel filter or an induction kit and fitting it yourself, they are simple enough to fit. even if you do know how to fit it someone on here will be able to tell you. What sort of K&N induction kit is it, because there some on ebay which aint that expensive, way less than £140. You might also have an issue with heat soak as well if its an open cone

basically its so my 1.2 sounds sportier. can't afford an exhaust just now. i was going to go for a cone filter i think its the 57i one i would need. what is heat soak cause me and cars are like being in a foreign country and trying to find somewhere.

Heat soak is where the air filter will get hot under the bonnet due to heat produced by the engine, i would check some photo's and see where the induction cone is placed, in most cases induction kits arent that great unless the kit is specially designed for that car, if not then a panel filter is the better option.

If you buy the filter im sure someone can fire it on for you. I would give you a hand if you needed it. No point spending fortunes getting someone to fit it for you.

Its not an ideal place, i would say get a panel filter.

but if you have a 1.2 and thats a tdi engine wont they be placed different, or wil the coen end up in the same place??

Theres much more space in the 1.2 engine bay for it. ;)

Its either 1 or the other you cant have both.Fit the panel filter yourself (easy) or if you want a bit more sound etc go for the induction kit,not that hard to fit,,,

if your after a sportier sound then you should go for an induction kit or a cone filter. i have a panel filter on my cupra tdi and there isnt any noticeable noise increase, but it does make your car rev more freely. if you was willing to spend £140 on an induction kit then why not spend that on a custom backbox exhaust? a lad i no went to the same place i got my custom turbo-back exhaust (rebal power-pipes) and he got quoted £140 for a back-box. that was with fitting and you get to choose the sound you want, then you could get a panel filter at a later date and get the best of both worlds. the green panel filter i have an many others on here have are only £30ish and are even more easier to fit than an induction kit

140 is for the two combined. its 40 for a panel filter and 97 for the induction kit. so unsure what to do as insurance will need to be notified
 
very simple. do some reading and learn a bit more about what the air filter does and how heat soak effects the engine. Ask ScotMk4 on here what he thought about his cone filter vs his pannel filter.

other than that i would highly recomend getting a pannal filter and drill some holes in the air box. Filter can be picked up online for around £35.

a mate i know is selling an bmc cda induction kit for £80. i had one on my ibiza fs and it was a great bit of kit. cost him £165 and it increased his bhp and improved throttle response

here check one out http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoCDA.asp there not like normal cone filter which can get heat soak and make your engine LOSE power, they an enclosed carbon air box. you have the elbow going from one end of the air box to the throttle body and the other end has an air feed pipe, like the one in the picture on the website. you can then extend the air feed down towards the bumper were the cold air is, instead of up were the hot air is.

If your really after one or the other, then head down to Halfords, the panel filter is under £40, and tyhe 57i kit is around £70 to my memory..

One thing though, make sure when they ask what model you say the Polo 1.2 with the double overhead cam, as for some reason we don't list the item for the Ibiza (even though its exactly the same engine)

normally takes 3 to 4 days to come from the distributor (i should know, i work there) :)

Ask ScotMk4 on here what he thought about his cone filter vs his pannel filter.

Scott got rid of his induction kit as the fuel consumption was rediculous, £10 was only getting him about 50 miles when it should've be about 100.
Opted for the K&N Panel Filter instead. Look for his readers ride for more info.

the mpg want go down just because you've put an induction kit on your car :confused: yes it will go down if your wanting to hear the sound of the induction kit all the time but it wont just by adding it.
