right:

after an hour on the phone... the consensus from a traffic enforcement manager/boss person is that their legal.

Reasoning:

You cant actually see the LED's (because of the way the bumper is made)
You cannot mistake them for being headlight or sidelights (hence the law on white lights on the rear)

But

Because they are bright and hit the floor, you might attract attention... which can lead to a type inspection... and although many items are road legal they might not be type legal or something like that.

he said, if in doubt check google....

wouldnt give me his name or his badge because i have had an altercation with an officer... but assured me they are fine.

guess what im doing tonight ;)

So basically... you're in the right :)
to be fair to the police, you can't expect them to know EVERY tiny little bit of legislation! They were probably just being a **** in all honisty mate. I'd keep them in and if they want to take further legal action, you can then go to court, then if you win you can claim compensation. Also if they decide to arrest you (for what ever reason) you're entitled to a soliciter free of charge. But doubt it would lead to that! If in doubt, seek legal advice every time ;)

yeah i knew i was in the right but i thought i would just agree and shut my face for once.

Im going to refit them asap... got to figure out a way of keeping them in, as they are just slightly too short length ways, so you can poke them into the bumper which is annoying!

Yeh ive poked mine in the bumper twice now when washing the car ... Mine dont fall out or push in unless you push them.. im just carful when washing that area now and there fine... may put a dab of silicone under each side to stop them goin in so easy tho.. can always be removed easy if need be then.. :)

Tom, that's crap. :(

I've done what Lee di dwith mine though, got the LED bulbs and angled them toward the number plate. They still give a white glow though!

Oh and pic of LED number plate led's :)
