Grating noise - turning right under power

Hi guys,

I've got a mysterious grating noise; sounds like tyre catching the wheel arch or similar. It only happens when giving it stick around right hand bends (roundabouts); and when accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd. I'm thinking it is driveshaft / cv joint related but wondering if anyone had any other ideas or could confirm my suspicions?

Can't describe the noise very well, but it is a droning/grating similar to that of a tyre rubbing metalwork (but it is definitely not this).

Cheers.
Dan

I've had this for a while and have always presumed it was CV joint on the way out but it hasn't changed or gotten worse so not too sure.
I've had a problem with the arch liner coming loose and rubbing on the wheel too

I've checked all the obvious things like rubbing/wheel bearing etc; guess it is the cv joint - might look into getting them replaced depending on time and cost!

The outer and inner joints with the drive shaft from Seat are about £250 each.
Time probably 4-5 hours at £60 p/h plus VAT its not cheap!!

Think it will have to wait then! It is only the left side making the noise; and judging by the fact that is it dependant on steering angle, that would suggest it is only the outer cv joint. Just looking through DPJ's guide it doesn't look like too much of an arse to diy it with some supervision; so that may be my way forward!

definatly not fleabay mate... tbh id look at seeing if you can get a driveshaft with cv joint attatched already, just have to swap the shaft over then.

gsf are ok, just check the boot, some are hard plastic and are an arse to fit and will split easier.

give dave at sere motors a buzz, im sure hell supply joints at a good price.
