me and my finished the gym tonight and he pulled up next to me at the lights in his non turbo VX220, we both floored it and i just could not get grip mean while he shot off! mine is running roughly 200 bhp next to his 152 bhp.

got standard wheels with p zeros, whats the best thing for traction!?

dont just plant the throttle! schoolboy error! you have to get the balance right on pushing the loud pedal and lifting the clutch progressively so it doesnt just spin up!

to be fair i'm not supprised the vx220 whooped you anyway.

in standard form the non turbo models are 144bhp, weigh 875kg, and hit 60 in 5.6seconds

the lack of torque compared to your car also would of helped him gain traction, and the lightness of the car would of helped him accelerate away.

Goodyear Eagle F1's ARE the best tyre for co-efficient of friction in wet weather according the latest evo test.. I run them and am very impressed with them..

He also has a good 250kg advantage, rear wheel drive and probably wider rear tyres.. And your suprised he beat you!?

Ask him for a rolling start in the dry at 40mph on a motorway and try and keep up with him then..

Not surprised he beat you. Its not all down to bhp and torque. Weight, driver ability and the power delivery all effect things. I have Pzero Neros on 17s and they grip v.well. Are yours really worn or if they were cold they wont grip well but then again no tyres will.

they are also mid engine too i think, basically you need the perfect start to match it and alot of torque to get in front of it

try a rolling start next time, much more of a chance that way

VX220 has a massive power to weight advantage over you anyway. I wouldnt be surprised if it had you in the dry on a long stretch of road either (drag coefficient of 0.38). Assuming your 200bhp is with a Stage one map, i'm guessing your peak power is lower down the revs than the VX, so he'll be happily taking it to the redline (6.5k) and with its weight and gearing it'll put on a good show despite its lower bhp figure.

I can see this going to the Scrapyard...

If you want to be quick off the lights in both the wet and dry, get your revs to, say, 4k rpm, get the clutch on biting point, and hold the car there using the handbrake.

Just release the handbrake and off you go. Traction!

Thats a sure fire way to light up the wheels in a 200bhp Cupra. (from personal experience)

I'll have to try it with 250bhp in a few months!

In all fairness if you're any good with the throttle and clutch, you should be alright. Setting off in a fast FWD car is never their best trait and is never going to be all that easy.

Anyway, the VX would nail you. Unless you were BT'd or something?

Even if your good with the clutch and throttle the only thing you would be able to do to stop the wheels spinning on a 4k launch would be to either let the clutch slip (not good for your clutch) or back off the throttle, either way would make setting off at 4k pointless.

You supercharging yours (Eaton)?
