ive had horrable knocking and VERY loud clunking front the front N/S

so far...

new powerflex top mounts with new febi bearings
new apex 35mm kit
both suspension bushes powerflex
new balljoints from seat
new hub with bearing fitted as the old one was worn down and balljoint wouldnt fit correctly
new JOM droplinks
new n/s rod end
new lower gearbox mount

the noise is still loud..

what else is there?

change the rods connecting to the track rod ends
rip the powerflex bushes out and fit standard?

cant be a driveshaft , if im driving and hold the clutch in and brake it'll bang/clunk
speedbumps , bang , wallop , clunk

on thing i noticed which i am not sure about is , i removed both drop links and the ARB was able to turn around in the bushes freely, is the arb suppose to be held in place by the bushes or is it suppose to be able to turn around in its bushes?

I'd put money on it being an ARB bush, had same issue on my A3 turbo, once changed it didn't knock again

did you change the arb your self ? only asking as id like to know if you was able to turn the arb in its bushes or if its suppose to not be able to move around

the arb came with the car, its a FK i think with big hoops

i think ill undo the arb from the links and have a little drive to see if this stops the noise

these are my droplinks, they look pretty heavy duty over standard

The 4 bolts that hold the sub frame on can stretch and cause a clunking sound, had it with mine.

The arb will move in the bushes!

But if its worn too much that could be the issue

How low is the car?

35mm, it came with some jamex coilovers set stupidly low but i binned them of for a set apex kit, the car also currenty has cupra r wheels on , can wheel size cause issues

The 4 bolts that hold the sub frame on can stretch and cause a clunking sound, had it with mine.

ill replace them either way as the cost is so little it then gets that out of the mix of problems

Check the lower strut brace my captive not were the bolt goes snapped causing a klunking noise case of a drop of weld on the nut again

Have you checked the Dogbone mount? I think someone had one of these fail a while ago and was causing a clunking. I had a strange knock on mine after coilovers and it was the dust cover on the front strut that had come out of place with the bump stop!

jack it up, wobble and pull everything from wheel to spring to find something loose. Get a bar in and apply pressure to see if it separates (obv not too hard) If nothing is loose or visually damaged save bet is ARB bushes. Cheap to replace

Check the near side gearbox mount, The bolts in the top may have come loose,
The same happened to my drivers side mount, It was causing a 'clunk' every time I pulled away.

The thread in mine had stripped and there was a small gap between the top part of the mount and the lower, Just enough for it to move and clunk.

If its really loud I would have thought it would be bolts. I had a bad banging sound that was due to one of the wishbone bolts not being done up tight enough, only happened under braking and hard acceleration.

Steering rack? turn engine off, leave key in ignition, but no power (so the powersteering isnt on) turn wheel left and right. if it cracks/clunks its that.

speaking from experience, as i found this out the other day on mine.

Sad Panda :(
