Crikey, I went in to buy a new tax disc holder today because my current one had melted off in the heat.

The entire staff were girls today, which made the unairconditioned experience a bit more bearable.

Somehow, one of the girls convinced me into buying a CD changer and new HU.

They were discontinued stock, and was the Sony CDX GT300SI and matching CD changer - 130 quid.

I was thinkin, hmm - that's not bad. Not brilliant - the head unit's what - 70-80 quid? So I figured I was getting the CD changer for pretty cheap, plus I figured i'd get a fascia panel too. Total - £145

anyway, we got to the till and low-and-behold, "the system was playing up". I didn't care really, the heat was causing the all-female staff to sweat quite a bit and I was clearly distracted.

I dunno what exactly happened after that, but I only ended up paying £110 for the whole lot.

Score!

I only wanted a tax disc! :D

Still, my CD changer and new headunit works beautifully. I might even take pictures!

Annoyingly, the default radio aerial connection is rubbish on the Leon - so i'll need to find an adaptor before I can permenantly rig it up...

She may well have offered me the adaptor, but I was too busy being overwhelmed by all the hot sweaty teenage girls trying to convince me they know all about ICE.

She'd never seen a car before that had a CDC in the glovebox. Any other day, that'd have bothered me - but she was bending over to try and get some measurements and I blacked out.

Clearly they're very commited to their job, whatever it is.

Cheers for the aerial advice :)

This is a picture of my car posing.

The pic after that is a shot of the new HU.

Opinions welcome, although judgements will be ignored since it's now a discontinued one - and since it matches the colouring of the interior so nicely (it comes out looking a bit silver - but it's actually very dark gun metal) ;)

For now, i've also chosen to have the HU slightly poking out until I get hold of a flush fascia, otherwise it looks untidy.

Also, using it to output my PSP's audio is excellent. To the max.

Nothing quite as fancy as an 'ipod interface' like most HUs advertise now - but it does have an aux input, so I can plug my iPod and PSP into it and musical goodness comes out of it :)

In fairness, that's better than the ipod interface - cos I prefer Sony's new MP3 player anyway, and would much rather be able to plug my PSP in ;)

looks good didnt know u could link psp into it. i know that sony have also just done a hu with bluetooth for £149.99 so i may look into that!(so no added wiring involved)

Yeah, I saw that one in halfords when I was in there. It looked cheap for a £150 unit - even if it did have bluetooth functionality. I'd much rather buy a nice looking unit and get a third-party bluetooth gizmo to plug into the back of it...

Speaking of the girls in halfords, stay away from queens road in sheffield cos there's a right monster on the tills:lol:

Unit looks good in the dash. And for the price you paid, it really doesn't matter if you have the latest, High-Tech features. It's a solid head unit that offers much more than the stock crap

Damn it! Was on my way to work this mornin, pumping out Liberation Transmission on my PSP when I decided I needed something spicier.

Went to switch to the CDC and it complained about a "reset" and shut the HU down. Then I switched it back on again and it complained about missing the CDC cartridge.

I'll have to take a look at it when I get home. I should have been paying more attention to the CDC when I was in the store, and not at... other things ;)
