I'm going to get one of these, and am going for the fixed installation version rather than the one with the curly lead and cig plug on the end.

Being an Automotive Electrical dunce, what is going to be the best way to hard wire it in - run the lead to the fuse box?

If anyone out there is able to give me some pointers I'd appreciate it, as it will save me paying an auto electrician probably around £50+ for 5-10 mins work! :)

I personally would wire it into the existing 12v socket.
Either cut the wires and solder the new lead onto where you've cut it. Or, use a Skotch Lock connector (link below) which cuts into the existing wiring.
Doing this would (should) be easier than wiring it to the fuse box.
Are you planning on making the cable come out of the centre windscreen vent? If so, do you know if it is easy to get to?

You can buy these in Halfords or your local car parts place.

If your cutting the cigarette connector off the end of the lead then remember to work out the polarity.

I was planning to use the Brodit Pro Clip that fits here -

Ah, then I guess you'd need to drill a hole somewhere to push the cable through. Unless there's an obvious gap somewhere to push it through. I havn't looked at mine to be honest.

Very smart Nick, have just ordered my clip and holder from same place you got yours, how did the fitter run the wire through in the end, looks like its going through near where the clip goes to me...
