Has anyone fitted Hottuning coilovers

If so did you use your top mount bearing cuz when i had mine done they said they would only fit without them and now when you lock the steering over there is a twang sound coming from the coilovers it sounds like the helper spring and the main spring hitting each other

yeah you have the main solid spring at the top and i thinner one at the bottom which is easier to compress down

Yes you do need the bearing.
the sound you're hearing when you're stearing is the topmount not being able to turn swiftly with the wheel. Then all of a sudden the mount will release thus the 'clunk' sound is heard

I am currently also driving without bearings but looking into sorting this.

btw you cannot simply take out the helper spring. That will put the car all the way on the floor...not a good idea imo

get the bearing sorted. there is many people on here with the hottuning ones and they all run bearings. your mechanic does not know what he is doing/saying I'm afraid

Mate like reuvers said you definately need the bearing so the strut can rotate in the top mount when you steer, just like any other rotating shaft needs a bearing. also taking the helper springs out will most likely make the ride hard as anything.

I fitted my hottuning coilovers last night, i cannot believe how solid they are!! its madness!
but yea as for the bearing they are definite must.

just going back to the ride quality.... any body else that has a set of these think that the ride is ridiculous?? its still got half of the coil left to go before running on the bottom but it still feels like it is already.....

i haven't got a set but from what i hear they are hard as owt. then again, you do get what you pay for..

Was sooo tempted to get a set of these for the price that they were going for but i knew that for 200quid they werent going to be the best. Going to hold out and get the H&R Cup Kit when money allows, they have such a nice stance to them and dont think i need to do all this messing about with replacing top mounts and bearings!

ive got the hot tuning coilovers on my mk3 and i cant fault them, i fitted them myself and just took all the mounts and bearings off the origional suspension and fitted it to coilovers, no problems fitted straight away, as for the ride i dont think its bad at all, its alot softer than my old peugeot used to be and that was set to soft, if you hit loads of pot holes one after another the yes the ride will be harsh but normal roads are fine and still have all my teeth. lol

Yeah fair enough. I've heard people say they can't fault them like yourself, and other people say they're terrible. I susspose it's just preference really, and what people expect from them. but even still at £200 they're pretty good value if you can live with the ride.

True, i guess for only 200 its not the end of the world if they are really bad. Would be more pissed if i forked out mega bucks for a set of KW V2's or something and they turned out to be cack!

i think it also depends how high/low you have them too as mine is slammed dont reckon it would go much lower so therefore the spring is under less tension then if ride height was higher so i reckon its a softer ride, i think like u say it depends wot u expect cfrom them, but i wudn't buy some cheap ones for an evo etc as it just doesn't seem right if you get what i mean

thats very true, the ride height will make alot of difference.

My girlfriend has the same coilovers on her mk4 golf and my car is a lot stiffer ride but i have only 15mm left to go on the coil till its maxed out but mine handles alot better.

But back to the bearings bit he said with them on the top strut thread would not be long enough to put the nut on.

And i normally do all my work myself but as i had alot of work on a mate offered to do it but he owns his garage

surely adjusting the ride height of coilovers does not effect firmness... it just moves the spring seat up and down...

to change the ride u need adjustable damping?!?

yes it does. as the spring is adjusted less compressed, thus making the car lower, less force is needed to compress the spring, meaning 'whobly' ride.

When the spring is more compressed, meaning the car is higher, more force is needed to compress the spring (as its already under quite some stress) meaning its a stiffer ride.

but the spring doesnt get compressed does it... as u adjust the base up or down the spring moves up or down taking the piston rod in the damper up and down with it.

fully up or fully down the spring should be to same size/ no more or less comreseed.

it is the position of the spring base that varies the hight
