Has anyone tried fitting their own LED strips in the gap where wraparound lighting should be?

Since my Fr only has ambient lighting and is only red is it possible to fit your own LED strip in that gap or not ?

It's different trim. The one with LED strip has a small gap. Different part number too, look at #12 and #13 in this pic:
