Excuse my ignorance, what the hell's a MAF, see it mention quite a bit.

MAF is the Air Mass Meter, this is simple a sensor that sits between the air intake and air filter, it measures the air density and temperature, and send those signals to the cars ECU, which in turn then can subtly alter fueling and air to get the best performance, mixture etc.

However they are simply a series of hot wires, that stretch across the sensor (if im correct) and can be very fragile, they are usually ok if they dont get knocked about by something, they are so fragile they have even been known to appear at dealerships broken when spares have been requested.

But they are an astronmically expensive part for what they are, and when they go wrong, the car tends to perform badly.

For some dealers it also seems to be a problem to diagnose, we all know what it is and usually the symptoms, but they tend to only read off what a silly computer tells them rather than actually earning their money and being a proper technician every once in a while. :p

But again if you took a comparison of all the car owners here, its a fairly rare occurrance, certainly not as common as the coil pack fiasco, and your new car shouldnt suffer from any coil issues just to set you right on that too ;)

I am also on my second Leon:)

Had 40k miles of trouble free driving in the cupra & 30K miles so far in the Cupra R.

I have had a couple of things happen like a lorry hitting me
Poor repairs caused me to nearly get rid of it:mad:
SEAT UK stepped in and all is now sorted:D

This is also the longest I have managed to keep a car:) This is a good thing as it just does everything so well from the factory!

I think it's because I had so many new cars when I was a company car driver (did about 465k miles over the years), and none of them really had any problems that I would have taken them back to the dealers for (exept major breakdowns after over 80k of serious missuse).
Having said that, they were dull Vauxhall or Ford rep mobiles service every few weeks.

So this will be the first brand new car I'll have owned, was just getting a tad worried at some of the unusual problems.

I'm sure it will be fine. Perhaps the long wait for it is making me everso slightly neurotic.

Door leaks were pretty much sorted 2 years ago, but it is the thought that puts people off. I know it did me first of all. I was selling a leak free Mx-5, and the thought of a leaky tin top almost put me off.

Other major gripe coils - all new cars for last 18 months have the latest.

all the mechanicals are the same fitted in Audis, bet you would not be so worried if you had an S3 on order.

Go to the civic type r forum - they are always complaining about tracking, and car pulling to one side when going in straight line.
