Head gasket oil leak?

Have a oil leak on my lcr it's at the back of the engine timing belt area just had hg done could it be anything diffrent?

This was after a clean and short drive u can just start to see a drip

could be camshaft cover leaking if its close to the camshaft could be a camshaft oil seal leaking. a new head gasket,s do not leak unless the head has not been skimmed true or the head has not been tightened correctly. only ever saw a astra that had a oil leak after a new headgasket and they never skimmed the head was the reason for the oil leak.

I've put a new vc gasket on hoping it solves it is a cam seal a hard expensive job?

a camshaft seal involves taking of the timing belt the camshaft oil seal is a cheap part its usually replaced at the same time the cylinder head is put back together with the valves valve springs valve stem oil seals and hydraulic tappets and camshafts. if the camshaft oil seal is leaking it will be damaging your cambelt and spraying over all the pulleys under the camshaft timing belt cover and that means a new timing belt as well as any other belts may have oil on them. if its only on the one side of the engine the camshaft cover may have been over tightened or under tightened. the more the engine is run the more it will leak oil . check underneath the engine to see if its sprayed across the underbody of the car i,e cover exhaust,fuel lines,brake lines ,

I it gets on the bottom of the fan belt pully and yes they should of been done with the hg I've just put a cct gasket on as the garage completely left it off oil all over the gear box went back 3 times for the to just keep rtv ing the cam cover the idiots so nothing would shock me

when the oil gets on to pulleys even after the wet oily belts have been removed the pulleys still need to be cleaned dry otherwise the new belt will slip and damage every belt that is fitted the pulleys that have oil on them need to be cleaned completely of oil and also the oil on the gearbox could get in to the flywheel and on to the clutch as well as your leaking camshaft cover could starve the engine internally causing pistons and piston rings overheat. make sure your camshaft cover has no oil leaks. wipe all around the engine to make sure no oil reappears and check your oil level daily until your sure its stopped leaking doing this will save your engine damage and big repair bills.

Did the cam cover but still seems to leak

Looks like it's coming from the right and I've been made aware it's rare for a new hg to leak oil externally unless it's a fitment issue ect
So I'm leaning to the cam seal but as is cant traice it to there

The issue I have is I supplied the hg set and cam belt kit they took care of the rest where would I stand leagle wise I also took a pay no vat option but have a full message history to back it up

dont be surprised if you are driving and smoke comes from under the bonnet its the oil thats got on to the hot exhaust parts burning of aslong as its only dried up oil not fresh oil.

I think I'm ok on that front it dosnt go up that far I've sent pics to garage giving them the option to repair I'm waiting on a response next step would be going to court

you never get oil leaks after fitting a new headgasket. i always get the cylinder heads skimmed and fit new valve stem oil seals along with the new waterpump certain manufactured cars i,e rovers,mg,s required a new radiator with every headgasket as when the old gasket failed the radiators were very thin which caused the cars cooling problems as a matter of prevention the radiators were always replaced and any new valves i also fitted along with new valv stem oils stopping any future problems. headgaskets always work there is never a fitment issue only the person fitting it. looks to me like a slight warped cylinder head and its not been skimmed before fitting.then it will leak where its not level.

It should of had the head skimmed and teasted I'm still waiting for the garage to get back to me there reading my messages just not responding

you need the head skimmed otherwise its just going to cause more problems with the engine. the garage should have had the head skimmed. sounds to me the garage cut a lot of corners of the rebuild i would not be surprised if they did not even fit new valve seals. there are some that think of cheating by not skimming the cylinder head saves time and the hassle of stripping out the camshaft bearng caps the hydraulic tappets camshafts. than getting a valve spring compressor taking out the valves checking the valves for damage and then if they only need a clean cleaning the valves of carbon makes fueling and compression and fitting new valve stem oil seal on the valves better is too much work.

the garage should do all the work again and skim the head all free of charge.....

Easyer said then done they won't even respond got a feeling I'll have to pay to resolve it then go to court

Trouble is, you have since carried out further work to the engine in the same/similar location, so you wouldn't really stand a chance going to court...

Best option is to speak with them, threatening court action will probably have you laughed at.

even when customer supplied parts the garage had the last say on putting it back together .any good garage would check all part after dismantling the engine and contact customer to say if they think the parts are not correct fitment and stop work until correct parts are obtained. to rebuild a engine and it leaves the garage even worse than when the customer brought it to the garage. stay well clear of that garage infuture. dont even trust them with basic servicing.
