Hello,

I am looking at getting some headlights for my MK4 FR TDI 130 Ibiza.

I was looking at HID's but I don't want them as my insurance will probably go up and there's the debate about if they're legal.

I would like to find some Halogen bulbs which give the same HID effect.

What do people find are the best? I like the white/bluey effect.

The ones I've seen are-

Phillips blue vision

Crystal Vision

Diamond Vision

From what I've read, the latter two are illegal, is this true?

What are the consequences or will they just tell you to change them?

The diamond vision look the best imo. But will having illegal lights void insurance etc? I wouldn't want to risk that.

The Philips bulbs are good and so are the Osram night breaker bulbs.

I have H7R 50W 5000k HIDs fitted and they passed an MOT.

The level is good and I've never been flashed at by opposing traffic. The output is fantastic and I probably will never go back to normal bulbs.

Thanks for the response.

If 5000K HID are fine, would Halogen 5000K be fine too?

I am tempted to get the converter kits, but I wouldn't know where to start, and I'm not sure about insurance.

5000k only means the colour or temperature of the light, not the power.

5000k Halogen bulbs should be fine, but won't put up as much power as a HID setup.

In regards to insurance and HIDs, phone them up and ask them!

Alright cheers! Which Phillips did you have before? And were you ever stopped or flashed at?

I had the Osram Nightbreakers purely for price and only ever had one issue. They don't appear to be built to last as I've had one fail when it was in the car for only a month.

However, never stopped or flashed at. They're legal so no issues.
