If I get a stick-on replacement mirror glass, does it work with the heating elements?

I'm looking at replacing the convex door mirrors with plain old flat glass as I can't get used to the damn wide angle view - two or three times now I've pulled out on people as I thought they were a lot further behind me than they were. I'd like to go back to flat glass with a stick on blind spot mirror.

To partially answer my own question and for the benefit of anyone searching for the answer :
I bought a new glass from an EBay seller who sent it complete with a backplate clip (bit of a universal one-size-fits-all thing), and after popping the old glass out it became apparent the original glass is just stickied onto the original backing plate with an adhesive film not unlike double sided sticky tape.
All the heating elements are on the back of the glass, not the backplate.

So, one sharp, box-cutter later I peeled the old glass off the original backplate and put the new glass on, refitted everything and now I have no excuse for cutting people up in traffic :)
