Personally I don't like the look of the HotShot, it's designed more for clearing the screen at startup than during driving. It takes a while to heat up then shoots a sequence of pulses at the screen.
The biggest problem I find is that the jets freeze up when travelling at speed due to windchill - they can be fine at the start of a journey (if you've enough screenwash) but then freeze up at the nozzles (seemingly regardless of how strong the screenwash is).
I don't think heating the pipes by routing them next to coolant pipes will help much, as the problem occurs at the nozzle which won't get heated and blocks flow.
I'd say the best option is to get the OE heated jets from a dealer, then try and work out where the wiring/plumbing goes - and once you have, tell me, and I'll buy some too
They are fitted as part of the "Winter Pack" which was only available on the continent, I bought mine abroad but they wouldn't let me have a winter pack with a RHD car for some reason

Even if you start the journey with a garaged car, if you drive far enough in freezing conditions, the jets will freeze...some people perhaps won't encounter the problem if they only do short trips.Ant FR said:

Snap - more like 25miles for me Muddyboots, but I quite like the idea of heated jets. Rover do a kit, but unfortunately I dont think they'll "mod accross" - not fan jets like ours and mounting difficulties probably. Quite a few have done the mod over on their forum.
The heated jets & wiring loom are listed in ETKA and available from your dealer, the only reason I've not done it so far is because I don't know where the wiring goes....

Question for you. Does your car have a big cannister next to the water reservoir in the lefthand inner arch..?? The wiring loom goes down into the left arch towards the fuse box on the drivers side of lefthand drive cars towards the fusebox as far as i could see.

A big canister ? Not sure what you mean.
The Power steering pump is down there and looks like a canister shape - could this be what you're referring to ?

I had a set on a mk3 golf gti 16v. Seem to remember they came on with the heated rear screen, always satisfying to see the steam coming off them in the winter. Always thought they were a very good idea. Also seem to remember they only lasted on average one winter, as the element in them appeared corrode (or was it the wire coming in to it?). Seem to think I still have a spare set in the garage somewhere. Now I wonder is they would fit the Seat?

Mine froze on sunday and took nearly an hours worth of driving to get back to normal, so it might be an upgrade in january for me.
