Hi all,

Having an odd issue with my 2016 Leon FR.

A week or so ago, I got a warning "Windscreen wiper fault" - but the wires still worked fine. The windscreen washer, however does not work for the front. The rear wiper and washer works fine.

Then yesterday the wipers stoped working. Tried again this morning, same issue - but then after moving the stalk up and down it started working fine. Turn the car off, pull key out, turn car back on - no problem. Wipers stay working fine. They only stop working if the car has been off for a few mins.

In all this time, the font washer never works (Pump does not engage - but the wipers (when they're working) start moving when I do try engage the washer) - zero issues on rear washer and wiper they always work.

So, I think it';s unlikely a fuse (Its either blown or its not) - could it be a wiring issue? (The stalk seems fine)

If I clear the codes the windscreen washer code always comes back. At first it did not come back for a day or so. But now it's persistent.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I’ve got the OBDeleven BT dongle. Sorry, I should have included the code from it.

It’s saying:
Windscreen module: no communication
U10A300

If I clear the codes, it comes back right away.
Wiper motor operates on LIN, contains a control module

Either the wiper motor is dead, the wiring is damaged or fuse has gone (I can’t remember if the fuse is shared)

I’m thinking it might be damaged wiring then. The reason for this thinking is that they started working briefly again (since stopped again) and in my mind if a fuse was blown they’d not work at all.

Motor being dead would mean they don’t work at all? When they do start working again they work completely fine until I switch off the car and leave it a few mins.

I’ll start pulling the tray off tomorrow and taking a look at the wiring from the motor.

I would change the relevant fuse first. It may be failing under stress (I.e. when current is drawn through it).

Posting this for posterity and for others who might come across this issue.

Car was looked at by a local specialist.
This is their report:

“confirmed customer complaint. removed body control module and confirmed there was water ingress to control module, one pin has broken off and there are signs of corrosion. BCM will require replacement and wires in plug will require repair. traced water leak to coolant expansion tank. this is a known issue and coolant leaks through plug, down loom and into BCM.

replacement of BCM and expansion tank required. will need to soak loom in isopropyl alcohol to get coolant out.”
