In the middle of getting my head gasket done just now and as if that wasn't bad enough my cam sensor is leaking too new on efrom seat quoted 361 plus vat :0 can anyone advise on a cheaper place to get on? Cheers
you can buy cam sensors from ebay for about £30 i need to get a new one aswel will be buying one soon. My Cam tensioner unit wen and seat wanted £400 so bought one from ebay for £90 and it has been spot on.....
depends where it's leaking... I had to change the tensioner as it was making a knocking noise when it was warm.
if its leaking around the cam tensioner you probably just need a new seal and half moon... or if it's leaking around the cam sensor then a new cam sensor.
New seals been done already mate found its called the cam adjuster after all two on eBay just now the one for a3 looks better nick but not sure if its the right one... Anyone confirm please
WOAH wait a minute............... The cam tensioner is leaking ? does it rattle liek **** when running ? if not then the tenisoner is 90% likely to be fine... if its leaking oil, it wont be holding pressure, there fore rattling its **** off, if it leaks oil out the back of the head then its JUST THE GASKETT which is common as you like, ive done about 9 !!! and the parts are about £6
It's not rattling mate but already had gaskets replaced and didn't solve the problem. Head gasket is getting done now so when it's all apart might as well just get it done as it was still leaking. Thanks for heads up though!
Hmm are they separate to the rocker cover gasket then? Cause had that done... I've ordered it now anyway and it comes with gaskets. Just as well doing it now while its stripped and ain't gonna cost any more labour time. If I'd had to pay the 430 quid for it I'd be gutted but 88 quid isn't too bad compared to what the heads costing and peace of mind that its new now I suppose
it can leak around that area and is quite common and just replacing the half moon and gasket will solve the problem and also will need a new rocker cover gasket and some sealant.
how old is the car? it's probably worth replacing the tensioner as you then know it's been replaced.
