Hi please help.
Cupra has been driving fine.
Got into the car today it starts revs and then dies.
If you floor the peddle it gets to about 3000 then dies.
Please does anyone have any ideas?

Car starts then dies - immobiliser?

Cupra starts then dies.
I have an orange symbol of a car with a key on it flashing.
Any ideas does this mean imobiliser is stopping the car from starting.

Sounds like the immobiliser to me. Get rid of excess keys from your collection and also try the spare. Had problems with mine when the metal key ring i have, touches the outside of the ignition barrel.

I have a spare key but it is just a key.
Doesnt look like the original key no buttons and very thin.
I tried it but no joy.
Does anyone know how to reprog my orig key to work or any other suggestions

yes IK tried both keys but still the same.
What can I do with the original key to get it too work?

just a thought, might be worth disconnected negative from your battery for 30mins, just to reset things, then try it. if it doesn't help you have lost anything trying.

ah yes, the famous radio code, i forgot about that, cheers lee! i've not had my oem radio for a long time so i forget!

The keys are not recognised by the immobiliser, so it thinks you are trying to steal the car. Both keys have transponders in them. The larger key has a fob with the remote locking and alarm transmitter in it, a completely separate item from the immobiliser.

There is no DIY way of recovering from this, if there were it would be used by car thieves. The dealer will have to find out what's wrong (immobiliser reading coil if you're lucky, ECU if not), replace it and reprogram the immobiliser to recognise all of your keys. He will only do that after you have proved to him that it is your car, registration documents and means of identification will probably be called for.

Have you tried syncronising the key with the car again (owners manual 2.36). If making reference to the locking but a hunt though the manual might turn up some details - could be worth a try.

That is the remote control for central locking and alarm. It is completely independent from the immobiliser.

thanks for the info.
I just got hold of an obd2 cable.
How do I sync my keys with this.
I have vag com shareware downloading it now or do I need something else

As I said in your other thread on this subject, you need a dealer. Shareware VAG-com won't help, nor will paid-up VAG-com, you need several codes and other information which can only be retrieved by a dealer.

You aren't synchronising your keys, you are trying to reprogram the immobiliser to recognise your keys. Which is just what a car thief would want to do which is why it is restricted to dealers.

Well thanks for all the help.
I have vag com working but any idea how to use the immobiliser settings anyone?
Rang seat you have put your keys next to a magnet.Rubbish scream some abuse they will fix it for 30 quid now.Problem how do I get it there as it wont start.

Hopefully got a ex seat guy popping in tonight to see if he can help.
Will let you know the results.

Bloody magnet indeed it takes a giant magnet to wipe a credit card and seat say that.

Ps If anyone can help me with vag com please do

Update on my Cupra.
Its now at Thompson and Thompson.
Bring it in to resync the keys.
They tried to resync but the process is not recognised.
Great now paying for a 2 hour diags to find the fault.
Can this get much worse.

Keys next to a magnet will make no difference. Whoever gave that advice is badly misinformed about how the immobiliser works. It isn't an RFID tag, not even in its simplest implementation.

As I said earlier, and in another of your threads, immobiliser reading coil or ECU is faulty. The Thompson Twins should have known that already if you told them what you've told us. No other way a previously valid set of keys can all suddenly go unrecognised. Are they a Seat dealer?

If they are using the term "resync" I'd be worried. That does not describe any solution to the problem of a key set becoming unrecognised by the immobiliser.

Can it get worse? Oh, yes.

My dad had this on his Mk4 Golf, after a day of messing round I found a thread which suggested turning the ignition on (do not start the car) and leave it on for 2 mins, turn off then try starting the car.

Worked perfectly on my dad's Golf, and it has been fine ever since.

The VW dealers had never heard of this before!
