i fitted an air filter last week, and car has been fine since but engine manaement light came on last night. iv drove the car this morning and it was fine but now it wont start, iv put the standard air filter back on and still wont satrt.

anybody got any clues of what this could be? cheers

ok well has it got petrol? electricity? does it turnover? i dont think the air filter would cause it not to start tbh

an air filter would not cause the engine not to start? you check spark plugs? fuel? battery basicly above!

check it and let us know cheers

its got a brand new battery on it, i dis-conected it and conected it again. got half a tank of fuel, all the lights and sterio and evrything on the ignition works but it doesnt even try and turn over with the key, i got a push and bumped it and it started straight away, the engine managment light has gone out now, but it still wont start off the key.

Which Ibiza is it? I'd assume a Mk3 Cupra from you posting on here... ?

Is the key ok? Has a little transponder in it. Is the plastic ring around the ignition slot in the steering colum ok and connected ok? That's the reciever for the transponder in the key. (transponder issues might cause it to turn over and never start, someone else will need to confirm that, in which case look elsewhere...)

Can you get a laptop with Vag-Com on it to see what faults are logged?

Is the battery ok??

have you tried locking it with the fob then unlocking it ? Eg re-setting the immobiliser? Just a thought?

you could have the same problem as i had with mine, if they keys turning the ignition and not past that it could be the ignition switch, check to see if you get a feed to the starter motor too, to rule that out, i connected a live wire directly from alternator and touched it on the battery to rule it out, in the end i took it to dealers to replace the ignition switch its about 30 plus fitting
