I have an airbag control module which needs replacing, my part number is 3Q0959 655R.

I cannot find a replacement with this identical part number, every one I find has a different prefix at the end, AC, AE, AF or AS. I cannot find one ending in R.

Some of those have been removed from a same spec vehicle but obviously part number differs. Where can I go from here, will any of those work?

Last number/ letter is just a revision number. The later in the alphabet the newer the design of the part is.

While this is sometimes true it is not always the case. There are often design and configuration changes between different part numbers that can make them incompatible with other vehicles.

Especially (and not exclusively) with electrical components the letters at the end of the part number are used to signify different configurations for different makes, models and model years. It cannot just be assumed that a later suffixed part number can be used as a direct replacement for an earlier one. Proper checking needs to be done consulting parts supersessions lists within VAG.
