Hi all car was fine pulled up to shops, got back in ..... no reverse won't even slot in as seems obstructed, turned car off eventually slotted into rev but then no 1st or 2nd gearstick is free flowing doesn't seem obstruction now but again no reverse , got home in 3rd which is fine along with 4th 5th 6th. Popped bonnet linkages are fine and doing what they should, its not a clutch/dmf issue, also checked shifter in car again no prob........... so what the hell can it be as I rely on car all the time...... cheers all

Hi there. It sounds like the your 1st and 2nd gear selector fork has broken away from the selector shaft inside your gearbox. There is a rivet that holds the fork to the shaft and its common for the rivet to break. 1st and 2nd gear is controlled by the same fork. You will need you gearbox stripped to repair and to check that nothing else has been damaged by the loose parts

Have a look at this it may help

did think that mate but reverse also gone and thats got its own selector fork which id imagine to be very unlucky for 2 to break. Anyway after playing again today it appears to me anyway that the selector cable may be at fault, as one controls left/right movement of gearstick this when manually pushed/pulled from gearbox end moves gearstick, however the other cable that operates the forward/back movement appears very slack and when manually moved gearstick stays where it is ............. so although cable looks ok is it poss they can break/come apart
