Help me lower my LCR 225................

Can anyone please help me???

I want to lower my Cupra R 225,as i am probably going to get some 19's for it,but my problem is that having put some FK Coilovers on a MK4 Golf previously, while they did improve it,i personally did not rate them high enough for the cost involved.

So the question is,which would be the best springs to use??

The car has only done 9k,so i am not worried about replacing the standard dampers,i just want it a bit lower.

I am currently looking to get Weitec,Koni or Eibach springs, and just wondered if anyone has done the same, and what they thought of the results,or if anyone has any other springs than the ones i have mentioned.

Please help!!!!!!!!

I have the FKs on mine and think there brilliant. If you look in the Leon section I have a few images up etc. Your other options for suspension are:

Koni FSD’s (I wanted these but they didn’t come out I time)
KW coilovers (think Robdon now runs these)
Blisterin (sp?) (Rudd had these)
H&R (im sure someone said they have these)

Ive not tried any others but for the money and the quality I don’t think you can go far wrong with the FK’s seeing as there konis (well the silverline X’s are)

Depends what your after, do you just want the slammed look or do you want the car to handle better?

I am actually quite pleased with the way the car handles as standard,i just know when i put the 19's on,the car will look better lowered a bit(or a lot!!),and as i say,it has only done 9k.

I went coilovers as after being in a LCR with them i could see a vast improvement as IMHO the LCR handled like a barge, but then I came from a FRST so it was always going to be worse in comparison.
Mines only done 19k, ok 10 more than yours but still very low

Does any1 recommend springs or are collies the best option?

I am looking for the look but would like it to handle a bit better round islands too.
Would springs be a good temporary solution?

Incidently scotty b,are yours just springs or are they coilovers??????????

Personally I think you get what you pay for and when I changed the suspension on my LCR I wanted to improve the damping if anything as the LCR crashes through the rough stuff as std....IMO changing just the springs won;t help the ride...firmer springs and already poor Shocks will be a recipe for disaster (when I say poor shock I also mean short life span in my case, worn out at 40k Miles)

If you want to see what I did and why the have a read here
http://www.westecperformance.co.uk/customerreviews/suspension.pdf

My Kit was;-
Bilstein PSS Coilovers
Neuspeed Front and Rear Anti-roll Bars
Audi S3 Strut Brace

The car was only lowered a little ~20mm photo's in my sig

You'l find a lot of people guessing answers to that one, nobody has really done this on here AFAIK.....maybe only 6-10 people I know of have changed their suspension at all on LCR's.

TBH I always thought the std ride was poor and fitting unmatched springs to poor OE damper 'could' work.....then again I could get 6 numbers on Saturday ?

You may also struggle to find suspension items specifically for the LCR not just MK1V Golf stuff reboxed....I didn;t fancy lowering my Leon 35mm like some kits / springs suggested.

Well I can;t say it won't......it might be a perfect match

IMO I seriously doubt it though

I don;t want to seem negative though

Thing that doesn;t calculate in my mind is why spend a few hundred £££ on springs for a £10k+ car.....surely to improve on OE you need to spend more.....or is that just me???

no i reakon ur rite ur comment was good it made me laugh

i thought bout it but why spend around £150 on springs then say £150 fittin when big boys will fit anything over £499 for free so imgoin to get springs and dampners (im not a fan or coilovers as my m8'scar feels bit harsh on them, but i might be persuaded lol)

yeah all taken on board, 35mm is a lil too low for the front I think

40K and worn dampers???
WOW

I am at 39K mark now so best get saving.
Probably go for FK Highsports. Any other recommendations?

If your not a fan of coilovers have a look at the koni FSD's there basicly a compromise between the coilovers and standard shock set up. i think it works out cheaper than coilovers as well.

Yeah Andy has your car and i would like to do some back to back testing on what the main differences are with the kits as thats what most people are after. I was thinking of Andy driving mine on the same stretch of road and me driving Andy’s and seeing what we both think to the differences etc that way we can have some kind of comparison, mind you if the blistering are better i may not want to know! I have to run this by andy first tho as he may not want me driving his car, mind you I don’t see why a passengers view would be any different

I did back to back with a standard car (me and CoxW) doing the same thing, we were amazed that a lowered car could ride better than the OE set-up (better damping) as well as the anticpated less roll etc. The OE car crashed through the bumps on a ripped up trading estate road while the lowered car soaked up the bumps better.

Over fast undulating road the lowered car did feel a little more 'choppy' than the OE setup but in every other case we tested the Coilovers were better.

You'll have to see if Andy is up for it  and feed back to us

KW's are a make mate, you get vaients 1,2 and 3 in them 1 being the basic.

Rudd did you do any write up for it? as it would be nice to get a stock to coilovers and coilover comparison review up for everyone as i know when i was looking it couldn’t find many non bias reviews,
