Start by saying dont really know jack about ice so hopefully u lot can help me out.......
Right people front drivers side speaker has gone in my lcr. Went to my local stereo dealer and asked what they recommend as a replacement. Told me that its a big job as they have to remould some mdf etc etc as new ones wouldnt fit in. Is this correct? thought if they where the same size as the factory ones they could just slot in, job done!!!!
Any1 suggest sum decent front speakers i can get for about £50? This next question may sound bit thick but will i have to upgrade the rear as well?

Also have a kenwood kvc 1000 sitting in the cupboard ready to fit. Does anyone see any probs i could have with fitting this to my leon? (wouldnt do it myself, get a pro to do it).

They are talkin CR*P! You will have to drill 4 rivets to replace speakers but thats as hard as it gets!!! Any 16/16.5 cm speaker will do and you will need golf mk4 adaptor (halfords) £15 ish! You could replace both fronts in an hour easy! and no you dont need to change rears as well!!!Drill off old speaker, bolt on adaptor screw on new speaker and plug in!! Done!

No they're not talking CR*P... Any decent installer won't bother with the plastic adapters as they're pretty crap. OK for just bodging a set of mids in but to get the real benefit of the new speakers they need to be solidly mounted to the door. This is why they would make MDF trim rings to fit to the doors for the speakers to screw onto.

How much were they quoting and what had they suggested speaker wise?

Think they said they charge about £41 an hr. Quoted roughly about £200 including headunit fitting.
Unfortunately didnt ask about the speakers, as soon as they said about being fairly big job, i lost interest but do need to get it done. Did go into my local halfords to have a look and thought sumthing like this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...umb_31265-31371-31396_parentcategoryrn_38226#
Not sure if there any good

Appreciate ur help

Sorry if i mislead but seeing as the budget was £50 for speakers, £200 for spending 4 or 5 hours fiddling with mdf is a bit excesive! Yes pete I agree for a good quality mid to highend setup this is worth it but to just replace a blown cone with similar quality its bit of overkill! And I have just spent best part of today making MDF rings and fitting components in front doors!

pete where did you get that shell for rc car????

and i agree just bung the new speakers in with the plastic rings and put a bit of sealent around the edges to seal up any problems.
