There is a misfire been logged on cylinder 3 and 4, swap the coils round with cylinder 1 and 2 and see if the misfire moves to eliminate coil packs first, its free after all.

Thanks for your reply. I am guessing the coils are different to spark plugs? How do i go about changing coils?

replace all spark plugs (cheap option) if still misfiring change coil pack ( 1.4 have one coil pack that looks like distributer cap connected vioa HT leads) inspec your HT leads for damage

Thanks for the quick reply. I will change the spark plugs first.

What is a coil pack and how much does one cost? Are they easy to fit?

Also what are HT leads?

Sorry for the stupid qs

ht leads come from the coilpack to then connect onto the spark plugs.

so Coilpack ---> ht leads ---> spark plugs.

Thanks! Perfect explanation :)

Also when tbe fuel is low, approx quarter tank, the engine cuts out. Is tjis related to spark plugs too?

Can anyone shed any light on the second problem?

UPDATE: Spark plugs have been changed and the error codes no longer appear (apart from 00779 - Outside Air Temp Sensor (G17) 30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent)

However i am still experiencing slight spluttering when in 4th gear. Any suggestions as to what might be causing it?

coil pack is around 50 quid for the 1.4.

i had the same issues when i owned mine.
change coil pack, ht leads and spark plugs

i think all the above was from new and the car had done 100k

Thanks adam!

Is there a particular type i should get for my ibiza chill 1.4 02 plate? Is the above cost just for one coil pack?

Thanks for the help

Hi :)

the 1.4 only has one coilpack :) so its pretty easy to change.

basically pop to your local GSF or stealer and buy the part, should be simple if you tell them your registration.
they only do one type.

when you change the coil pack, make sure you get a distributor arm too as i found mine was quite worn.

its a doddle to change though its 4 screws and pull the coilpack off. also please make sure you mark up which HT leads to which port on the coil pack ;)

I shall give it a try, hopefully it sorts the problem :)

No way I will be going to the local stealers!

What is the distributer arm and what does it do?
