Help!!

Hi Everyone

I'm new to the forum and I could really use some advice!!

I bought my lovely Leon cupra and picked it up about 4 weeks ago. Since then I have had a few problems with it, nothing major but now I am wondering whether I should try and take it back and get a refund

First it broke down on the way to work, coil 1 had packed up (no engine light)
Second it broke down 2 days later on the way home from work and the engine light came on - coil 3 had packed up and fuel running to lean - new breather pipes
Third - a week and a half later the engine light came on again, took it back to the garage AGAIN and this time fuel was running to lean - new o2 sensor in the exhaust.
This time, a week and a half after picking it up from the last time! Broke down AGAIN on the way to work - coil number 4 had packed in!!

I have managed to get away with only paying for this mornings coil as the garage has been really good but its out of warranty now and I am worried this could be a sign of things to come.

Has anyone else had any similar problems? Could there be something the matter with the car that keeps making the coils go, is it just teething problems??



I absolutely LOVE the car but I don't want to be constantly forking out cash just to keep it running, can anybody suggest anything!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

bit of a grey area, contact 08454 04 05 06 (consumer direct - very helpful to me when i had issues with my leon). Is it a seat dealer? long story short i believe you do have about three months to throw the keys back at them. Coil packs seem to be dependant on each other so when one goes they ALL have to be replaced at the same time. The garage should have done that!!

Thanks... Its not a Seat Dealer They haven't replaced all 4, just the 3 that have gone so far, should I be expecting the last one to go any day soon then??

Is it a common fault with leons??

How many miles has it done? Usually these coilpacks do end up going at similar times.

Hi Laura, Welcome to the forums.

Coil packs are funny things. They do have a tendency to all go once the first one has blown.
Its not particularly a sign of a dodgy car or one that has had a hard life. What is the mileage of the car?

The fuel issue could be a result of the car running with a faulty coil pack for a while, so it could all be related.

Getting your money back from the garage will be pretty much impossible. As you said, its now out of warranty, and coil packs isnt something that you can tell will break.
I would keep the car, replace coil pack 2 just in case, and then you should have happy trouble free motoring!

hmm... I wonder if they have y'know cos the AA did the one this morning and it was just a standard part he had in the van that he just fitted, didn't check what engine etc it was until afterwards when he asked me if it was a 1.4!?!?!?!?!

surely someone with an ounce of motoring knowledge (which i would have thought the AA people should have) would be able to tell that it isn't a 1.4 . Surely a 20v Turbo badge or the sight of a turbo behind the engine would be a big clue. If you're registered with the AA then they'd know about the car too
