Well were here amongst some of the biggest names in motorsport! I say some because there are a couple who realy should be here but because of one reason or another cant make this season.
These Toledo's have taken a huge amount of time to sort out and because we decided to use the other car its still on going. Testing in the 08 chassis went realy well once Paul Ridgeway worked his way through the gremlins but then we decided a couple of weeks ago to try chassis 11 but this has taken longer to work through than we estimated but we are getting there a gearbox bearing decided to let go at Media day then that crazy Inconel exhaust system broke again this is a total pain why do they make an exhaust out of fag paper that breaks every time you use it? Yes the answer is weight but we have had to put 70kg of ballast in the car!
The official test was yesterday at Brands and we just couldnt get the chassis to work as good as the 08 chassis some half a second slower than testing even with all the latest mods just oversteer every time the morning ended with Liam in the gravel at druids not what we wanted!
After clearing what seemed like half a ton of gravel from the front splitter we were out on track again.Liam had comented about the diff not seem to be working so at about 3pm we changed the diff and some springs and Paul wanted to try some new tyres. We had been using old stock new tyres all day but Paul Ridgeway insisted we try a new set.
What a huge difference this made Liam suddenly had 30% more grip and the car was electric after 3 steady laps Liam was into the pits to front to rear his tyres and with a huge smile on his face said it all. On his next flying lap he set his fastest time but had lost 6th gear exiting clearways its a good job no one was listening to our radio as the language was blue so that was the end for us but we came away smiling . Liams computed time would have been 49.8 putting him 11th and we are looking at the gearbox today !!
There is a moto to the story don't buy last years tyres on the cheap and think because there new they will be ok WRONG!
