Hesitant when cold and 'jumping' rear end..

Hi,
I've a couple of questions, I'm sure they are common faults, but I'm new to the Cupra/1.8T lump.
It is really not happy from cold, starts fine and revs up ok, but try to engage some sort of forward momentum and it just bogs down when the clutch is released, give it a bit of just keep trying to get it moving and it's fine, only takes 200 yds to clear. i wouldn't worry, but it seems to be getting worse on a daily basis.
Sensor is my best guess, any suggestions what one?

Second question, It feels like the rear end is slightly detached, go over a bumpy road or even lumpy cats eyes and it feels like the car is jumping across the road sideways.
It's been suggested the wishbone bushes tend to wear causing this? Again, any suggestions?

It's a 2001 1.8T cupra, utterly boringly standard at the mo.

Stu.

could be a number of things but coolant temp sensor or dirty throttle body.

is the rear issue new? could be something worn but i always felt the rear was bouncy on b roads any way. check tyre pressure and wear.

I found a rear ARB reconnected the rear so if things arnt worn its worth considering

The car is new to me.
The rear feels like it is detatched when going over smallish bumps, feels as if the car is jumping sideways a bit, certainly not planted as a cupra (or any other hothatch type car) should be.

I can relate to that feeling of the back end jumping too. Funny, slightly unsafe sensation. My missus keeps mentioning it too. I may need to check these rear bushes too. Mind you, if you plant it round a few roundabouts etc you dont get any similar sensations, its on the bumps, even at normal speeds.

Hello mate,

First one: prob as said above, temp sensors; Get a specialist like rac-london to vagcom to diagnose or someone on here who's got vagcom. Get a throttle body reset thrown at same time, will make your car more responsive, crispy, new-feeling, car fresh to learning how you like to rag it!

The rear bopping I get too. MOT costing me a grand+! ouch!! Rear-axle bushes were an advisory so going to do them. Also, needs wishbone bushes, suspn top mounts, and antiroll bar bushes!

**WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET HIGHER PERFORMNANCE BUSHES?**

I fitted THS-perfomance dogbone mount/gearbox steady - lots on here found it really helps with "wheel-hop" (prob what you're getting as struggling for traction due to uk roads) - it is meant to allow better response so t/c doesn't get inolved so often too (no brainer mate :)

** AS I'M DOING BUSHES, THINKING COILOVERS - ANY GOOD ONES FOR LESS THAN £220?

Good luck with it mate. Vagcom will (95%) chance diagnose you're first prolem..simples

Cheers for the replies.

Looks like I'll be having a weekend pulling rear apart and re bushing all of it!
My mechanic friend agrees with the cold temp sensor, we're going to swap it out to see what it does.
Been offered a remap local for £250, told it should bump it up to 220bhp- little dubious but there are no known VW specialists round here that i know to ask.(not a shop/workshop, more a one man band sort of thing....)
