Hi all, just picked up a Black MkII Gti Curpa Sport for the missus. T reg, not perfect but 1 owner from new, FSH from main dealer. Nippy little car!!

Look forward to getting to now people on here and the car too!!

2 immediate issues to sort:

1 Need to take out the passenger side head light. Looks like the grille needs to come off. Undone the 3 torque bolts but am worried about the clips on the bottom, near the lights? Or am I missing something?

2 A heat shield resonates from the centre section at 3k revs. Anyone had a similar issue?

1) clips x2 at the front, but pop the indicator out as it's screwed in behind them too

2) hit it with a hammer until it comes off.

Hi m0rk

Thanks for the heads up. Does the indicator pop out on its own or with the headlight? Seems to wobble together!!! I take it I uncrew by the indicator from inside the engine bay? Forgive the n00b-ness, never looked at one of these in detail before!!

Liking the hammer option!!!

Is the Haynes any good for this car or better off left at Halfrauds?

Oh, rather than start a new thread, can these simple q's be answered please? I'm not getting on very well with the search function!!

What was stock bhp figure for the 16 valver? IIRC 150bhp??

How can you tell the difference between 8 and 16v on a glance under the bonnet?

1.8T MK2 Conversion
stock 150bhp yes

to tell the difference... the inlet manifold comes over the head and usually says dohc on the top... thats a 16v. the 8v has quite a thin head as its single cam shaft.

front indicator has asmall clip holding it in, its clipped at the headlight side so you just need to unclip it and push it out the front.

the headlight has 3 screws one on top and 2 at the bottom which are hidden behind the grill, so that needs to come off. theres clipson the grill along the bottom edge but if you look carefully from inside theengine bay youll see them, and just need to push them down and pull at the grill

Personally the Insanes Manual is only for people that are tremendously paranoid about removing things like speakers.. Everything else its total ****, well unless you work in a SEAT garage.

I've used a Hayne's for a few things on a few different cars, every time the book lies and not about little things either..

The head torque settings for my Clio Valver were about 10 degrees shy of what Renault recommend. Not sure where they get their info..

With the heatshield, like mork said, get a big hammer and get rid off it. I had it rattling on both of my Ibiza's, so I "removed" it on both of them.

As for the heynes manual, I say its definitely a GOOD guide. For once you could have read up in it how to remove the headlights. I didn't want to pay £20 tho, so I got one of Ebay for about £5, bargain

"SARGE!!! I CANT SHOOT THEM"......

"WHY NOT LAD WHY THE DEVIL NOT"....

"I DON'T HAVE THE MANUAL FOR MY RIFLE!!!"....

only joking of course, I accept that it is handy in certain cases.

Well I personally dont need a manual to remove a headlight due to my superiorness :starwars: But not everyone is as genius and myself :roflmao:

It is OK to take it off on yours even if it is a 1.0. At the end of the day all a heatshield does is...............shield heat. So just dont park the car on top of a massive hay bail. BUT if you say its knocking, I'm not sure that the heatshield is your problem, more like the way the exhaust is mounted. A heatshield makes an annoying rattle rather then a knock.

well mine isn't all the time, and i am not getting it all the time and not been able to tie it to a certain rev range or while braking etc

seems to be mainly when braking slightly harder when the car is not braking in a straight line, rather annoying as i am looking to replace my car very soon as it is

hey mate,

just wondering what make your HIDs are and where you bought them from.

Ive seen some on ebay 6000K not sure if yours are the same?

thanks.

I got them from mydepots.com and yes, its the 6000k kit. It takes about 10days for them to deliver as they come straight from the manufacturer from asia, but TOP noch kit. Cost only about £70 delivered as well.

THE best mod I've done to my car (cost vs result)
