i have a 2007 ibiza and am tempted to upgrade the halogens to HID's
i was on the hids4u site and found two kits for my car, the dipped beam H7 and main beam H3 hids4u.co.uk/hidkits.php
does this mean that i need to install two kits to my car or if not what is the difference ion the h7 dipped and h3 main? as you can tell i dont really know much about them so any help would be great :)

If you want both main and dipped done you will need two kits, so 4 bulbs&ballasts in total. Imo Main is a waste of time. You may find with dipped HIDs you won't even need your main beams anymore when driving.

Also, xenons take a few seconds to warm up so are useless for flashing ;)

As others have said, no point in getting main beams. I have HIDs on my 2007 Ibiza and I hardly ever use the main beams other than flashing people or if the road is empty at night (country lanes).

What colour were you thinking of going for? I currently have 6k, but was thinking of going for 4.5k for a more whiter light instead of the blue tinge. Just looks chavy and after-market, even though they are after-market kits. lol

seems pretty expensive just to have the main beam wired in when all i would be using is dipped beam, plus not being able to flash:-o
dipped beam seems the way to go then:D
thanks for the info on that:)

em not too sure about the colou
ive seen people with hids and they look very blue/purple?
what "k" would give me a bright white light with a blue tint?

ive heard to avaid the cheaper kits as they give off more glare than anything else? any one any preferences on good supplies of kits?

thanks in advance:)

The best colour in terms of light output is 4300k, which is a bright white light with a slight hint of blue. I'd go for a colour of around that figure, certainly a figure 5000k or under.

must take a look into the different colours available and go from there:)

thanks for all the information:D

Anyone with a 2006- onwards car have slim ballasts? do you get errors mentioned by HID4U and other sites?

I did this mod last night, 6000k and took less than 40 mins to fit, no bumper off, no headlights out, I don't see why it takes people so Long...

As far as I know, the mk4 Ibiza did`nt have can-bus wiring regardless of year. Hids4u are just trying to steer you toward the more expensive kit.

Where did you put them Zach? In the clusters?

:) Cool, thanks good news I never thought to question it but after doing a bit more digging around and any lists of Can-bus wiring cars I find don't include Ibiza.

nope mine ar big ballasts from a cheap uk eBay seller, £35 all in :)

I attached mine to the inside wings with cable ties through the holes running along where the bonnet meets the wing, no massively pretty but who cares :)

if i'm honest mate i have 30w 6000k HIDs and i never use my full beams. Also the main disadvantage of HID's is that they take 3 - 5 seconds to heat up and reach maximum light output, it also knackers them flashing them on and off, and seeing as full beam are rarely used for more than about 10 seconds at a time its not really worth it cos they'll just break and be really dim because you keep turning them on for a few seconds at a time. But obviously if you live in the country side or do a lot of countryside driving then i would do it as long as they'll be on for a substantial time.

dont think id be doing too much countryside driving or late at night so they dont sound as if they would be of any benifit
as you say they are useless for flashing so they sound as if there not for me:)
thanks for the information
very helpful:)

Hi there

What do most people go for 35w or 55w kits?

Also which of the two would be best for H7R bulbs?

Will

H7R bulbs just have black bits on to prevent the light from going all over the place and blinding people
