They only void the warranty on any part associated with them. Given that the dealers could fight the whole electrical system of your car is affected, it is a risk to take. Fuses are there for a reason :)
I've had 4 different sets of HIDS throughout my cars and all have been fine. Never been pulled over, although this year, yes the law has changed. MOT testers should NOT pass a car with HIDs due to the fact there are no headlamp washers and self-levellers. Whether the police will stop you is another matter.

They are also revising MOT tests now to check for them. Putting them reflective headlamps also causes skatter..... blinds other road users.

I have been lookin at HID kits for my boca today cus i have got some white led sidelights and want some white headlamp bulbs to match. Has anyone got an idea of any decent h7 bulbs that are brighter (and white) without using hid. Used to have some in a previous car and was very impressed. Preferably ones that wont mess with lamp warning system cus already trying to re-code it to turn it off for the sidelights.
Thanks
Phil

They all scatter just because you haven't been flashed doesn't mean they don't scatter.. Fact is there illegal, You will fail an MOT and if you get stopped (like there doing in MK) it is £60 and possible points. There have also been recent cases of insurance claims being voided.

If you wanted them.............. you should of had the option

A copper would have to be pretty harsh to give you a fine and points straight up, more like they'd give you a vehicle defect notice. You'd have to fix the fault and get it checked at an MOT center (thus removing the HIDS). If you reinstalled them after the check and the police caught you again they'd then fine and give you points.

But as Phil pointed out, they are now illegal if they are an aftermarket kit

Wake up and smell the coffee..........

If you fit HID lamps to a headlamp designed for a tungsten halogen lamp, it is illegal. There are no grey areas. It doesent matter how many of your mates will say they don't glare, they are illegal.

So you pay a small amount for the HIDS but yet you will have to pay out alot for self levelling and headlamp washers?
That is what they now test this year, if your car has Xenon headlamps, they test for self levelers and a washing system for the headlights.

You need to read the whole law outlined about them, it's not just the glare caused that is making them illegal. Yes the H7R bulbs are A LOT better than normal H7 HID kits when it comes to glare and beam patterns and yes those bulbs ARE E-Marked but the E-Mark only counts when you have headlight washers and self leveling (sp) headlights. Without those two things those bulbs might as well not have the E-Mark on them. It shouldn't pass an MOT on a car, true some MOT testers might not care too much and might turn a blind eye but you could get one that will spot them straight away and fail you for having them.

And remember not everything you read is true, just because it says it's "designed using Mercedes Benz technology" doesn't mean it's true.

I myself did fancy a H7R kit as it would have been spot on for my car but I'm in two minds with all the new MOT law.
