High-mileage LCR: Worth spending money on?

I keep swinging too and fro about whether to spend money on my 52-plate LCR210. It's at just over 98k miles and I love it to bits, but I'm unsure about whether it's worth spending a lot of money on it or not. I have a list of things that I'd love to do, including fixing the paint-work, double-din dash, ARBs and strut-braces, engine mounts, FMIC, DV, remap and hoses. I only paid £4,700 for the car last March but I'm not sure whether it's worth it, or should I find a lower mileage example? I'm kind of in the opinion that I know this car now, and while it's far from perfect at least I know it.

Honest opinions please...

You can mod higher mileage cars, just make sure they're in good health. Has it had regular oil changes? You could do a compression check on the cylinders, see if they are within the range stated. My LC is on 105000, and i will be modding soon, just gonna make sure its healthy first

To be honest mate I'd do everything you said on the 1 you got now. As if you were to find a lower mileaged LCR it'd cost you more than what you got your's for. Thats more money towards mod's etc

they are audi engines after all. I thought 100k problems on german engines were generally unheard of these days.

Yeah, good points. I'm thinking project car too, but the problem with that would be that my ambitions are way bigger than my budget at the mo, so the above list is somewhat reduced as an alternative.

This car has had FDSH for everything except the last two services in the book, but I only have the duplicate book. The last one before I bought it was the dealer I bought it from (not Seat) and the one before appears to have just been any old garage. It's in good knick mind you. Just had it serviced and MOT'd at the local dealer with no problems at all, though I have just had the Brembo's fully stripped and serviced and 4 new tyres (that did NOT help in the snow!) :D

You'd be silly not go for it mate. As from what you have just said car sounds like it's in good condition. As for not being able to do everything a once Rome wasn't built in a day;).

Yeah, sod it. To be fair, I'll probably not do many miles a year (bought the car on 94k miles I think it was in March and it's only 98k now) so the mileage will come tumbling down (ie miles/year) which should help reliability too. I won't do anything half-arsed, so no tuning the hell out of it without upgrading the necessary components first, hence why I put FMIC ahead of remap for example (want the big-race Forge one) and there's a few other bits that I'd like to do before I start extracting more power.

ARB's are a good starting point. Or you could start replacing some of the hose's T.I.P etc oh and def uprate the DV before anything else, unless you've already done that.

Yeah, being a biker I think we tend to go for handling before performance, so I want to sort that before I add power. This car understeers too much for my liking, though I have learnt to control it (ie not be so ambitious).

I would actually like someone who owns a similar car to test mine, see whether anything seems wrong before I commit to it

I would mate but you're a bit far away. There's quite afew members from your neck of the woods, Nibbles is the only 1 I can think of mate he might be able to help.

Thinking of seeing if I can talk J0N in to it when I see him at the Chesterfield meet at the end of the month. The only thing is that his car is tuned so not sure how well he'll be able to compare the two to ensure it's right

He should be able to tell you mate as you never forget how good the car was in standard form.

Hmm, I'm sure it'll be OK, I just didn't know whether it would be worth spending on a car that was soon to go over 100k. J0N has agreed to try mine next Sunday, see whether it seems right or not, so hopefully I'll get a better picture as to whether it's worth it or not then.
