Just took the car for a spin after fitting and to say i am disappointed is an understatement. It feels less powerful than it was before the CC Stage 1 remap. As soon as i had stopped i pulled up the bonnet and the filter felt cool to the touch, which seems to rule out heat soak.I am wondering whether there is something else i need to do.....new exhaust with sports cat?... .to complement the filter. Also, the blow off noise is a lot louder than it was...i am totally confused.

The recirc noise will be louder if you have fitted an open cone!!
Its just not matched to the AUQ engine, the flow rate is obviously wrong?

If the car was pulling ok before changing filter bung the old filter on and see if that eliminates anything. Check make sure you haven't accidentally knocked something or taken something off by mistake.
Dump valve noise will increase with a cone filter mate

No one is suggesting that the filter is restrictive....quite the opposite. The same happened on my old Primera when i fitted a cone. However, that car had a learning ECU and within a few tens of miles it was running a lot better than original. Does anyone know whether the AUQ has such an ECU?

Yes the ecu does adapt and learn over time.

What expectations did you have?

Check everything you touched to make sure its secure.

I expected at least the same performance as with the standard airbox. I have double checked everything and all clamps are secure. Also, i am still not convinced about this sucking hot air in business that has been mentioned. Half a dozen times i have lifted the bonnet immediately after a good blast in the car and the filter is not warm in the slightest.Admittedly,a cold air feed would be better but i think the hot air problem is somewhat exaggerated.
I am gonna whip the filter off tomorrow and put the standard box back on.In the meantime,i will make some sort of cover for the filter with a 3 inch cold air feed.....

Forgot to add...i read somewhere on the web last night that a combustion engine can never have too much air going into the intake ,only too little fuel to mix with it which will cause a power drop. This has got me thinking that maybe the MAF can only work within certain parameters as set during development of any particular engine.

With turbo cars the main air cooling is done with the intercooler but it still pays to run a shield if only to stabilise the maf which hates vibration.

Did you disconnect the battery when you fitted it?

I think your right about maf reading within certain parameters but as far as I know their well within the scope or usual remapped power.

What fuel are you running?

You could try disconnecting the battery for 30mins , it will reset the ecu so it starts with a clean sheet. Make sure you have your radio code if fitted.
