Hi all, something that has always annoyed me is the slight delay between pressing the horn and it actually sounding. It maybe just under a second the delay but when you sound it and you're a second late when moving, it's almost completely pointless/useless! For the record, I'm not one of those twats that drive around beeping like a taxi. I was thinking the fuse may be too big which may cause the delay?

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. I changed the car's horn when I got it because to me it sounded absolutely awful, but then about a month ago the horn stopped working (probably a loose wire or something). Hopefully today or tomorrow I'll get that sorted out, and I may check on the delay thing.

 at the fuse being too high in value causing the delay.

The delay is probably due to the fact that there is a relay switching the horn. The relay is probably a mechanical one and the delay is the time it takes for the electromagnetic coil to move the contacts.

Fit a solid state relay and it should get rid of the delay. probably cost £20 if you can find one with the correct fitting that will plug and play.

The canbus system isn't slow though. The fuel injection and ABS run through it too and there isn't a delay on them. electricity passes through wiring and circuit boards very very very quickly it's when you relay it through mechanical relays it gets delayed.

Mine has a little delay too.

Mine appears to work fine. Used in the past couple of weeks to beep at a couple of blithering middle aged women in their **** mini boxes.

Yeah mine came with only one horn. I might be installing it back till I order a set of horns that are in the Golf GTi, namely "Hella" horns or something like that.

Mines slow too. Just been up the seat showroom and tried 3 others. All have that same small delay before the horn actually works!

Nothing to worry about !!!!

Mine seems slow thought there was a fault, but if others are having the same problem then maybe thats just how it is. My horn also sounds a bit poor too is this normal??

My FL is a lot slower than my old one, I wonder what they changed. Wish I had a happy fast horn like a tranny van, I just sound like a nob when I parp my horn at a mate or summat lol

Bit of an old topic but I've noticed this on mine too, on the rare occasions I've used the horn there is certainly a clear delay between the press and the sound, I was wondering if it's something anyone has bothered to report back to their dealers?

We left friends house the other day and also noticed a delay only because I tryed to press it a few times next to each other but it certainly didn't do what I thought it should off..... You can hear the relay and how slow it actually is

I've actually noticed the same is true of the brake lights, very slight delay when the pedal is pressed, surely that can't be a good thing!!

Hmmm I'd get the brake bit checked out lol. I don't know if we ever found a solution to the Horn, after 3 years of ownership it's still as slow as ever I'm just hoping they have fixed it on the next gen
