How do i change the wheel bearing?

Hello guys, i have raised the car up and ever since i have done this i have a grinding noise coming from the front drivers side, thought is could be a shaft and cv but, it does it when driving along in a straight line. Normally a cv joint, grinds when you go round a bend. Any ideas maybe, wheel bearings? If so how hard are they to change, was tempted to change the shafts as i can get the quite cheap.

Its a 1.9tdi se110 2001 model

heres the conclusion
wheels spin fine
1.The drivers side drive shaft can move in and out is this correct?
2. I can move the wheel when pulling the bottom towards me and pushing the top in, then also the same at 9 and 3 oclock on the wheel.

Any ideas, its got me thinking tie rod now?

go for good drive and be very gentle on the brakes. Then when your home feel the temp of alloys/disks/calipers. If one is much hotter its binding.

ok mate cheers ill try that tomorrow, but dont think it is that as there doesnt seem to be any marking, if it is this how do i fix it?

if theyre binding you would just get normal wear on pads/disks

Number 2 probably points towards a foobarred wheel bearing, I'd say.

yh i think so, i got one ordered today for £19 so will change that and going to get tie rod ends at £5 each so change them aswell and see what happens, how hard is it to change the wheel bearing anyone done it?

front wheel bearings need a press to put in

best bet if you're on a budget is take the whole hub off and ask a garage to press the new bearings into it. Bit of a hassle but you're probably looking at £70ish for a garage to do the whole job I guess.

isnt there any other way of doing it, ive done it before on other cars with a clamp.

right it is the wheel bearing, ive got one to put on, one half is magnetized for a abs sensor, does the magnetised side face the wheel or the driveshaft, any haynes manuals available or disks?

any ideas, what tools do i need, i bought a dish but it takes ten years to download the information. I need to know:
What lbs the hub nut needs to done up to.
What side the magnetised bearing faces?
How does the bearing go in and come out, from the rear or front?
what side does the circlip go?

need the answers asap please guys all help appreciated.

are you 100% sure its the right bearing? all the leons and toledos i've done have had a big sensor ring on the outter edge of the hub, not an in sync magnetic one in the bearing.

If you are not sure, get a garage to do it.

The bearing will need a bearing press to get out/in anyway.

The ABS reluctor ring should be on the driveshaft IIRC.

Does the bearing have the wheel flange on the front?

the one that conks has put a link to is the correct one for a leon/toledo front hub, you'll be ok if you have a big vice to press it back in but generally they are a pretty easy swap-over.

yep thats the bearing mate, so it can go in anyway? because as you can see in the pic the bearing has a split on the inside. How tight do i do the hub nut up please?
